I copied this from MJE. Moonstreet had saved this from another board a few years ago. Too bad she didn't have any info who wrote this and where the article came from. But this is about us, Michael Jackson's Fans :flowers:

"Michael Jackson fans are a strange breed. One would be hard pressed to find another fan community whose object of admiration is the subject of so much unnecessary condemnation. Over time, Michael Jackson enthusiasts have watched their beloved's seemingly global idolization transform into apparent worldwide mischaracterization and mistreatment by the press and public alike. Yet, through it all, true Michael Jackson fans have abandoned him not. If anything, the harder Michael's opponents try to shove him to the depths of despair, the harder his devotees love him, if only for summoning the courage to persist in the midst of it all. Michael's continued endurance is an exercise in strength and resilience in the face of adversity and uncertainty. Michael's fans have learned well the lesson, as they steadfastly brave the almost daily emotional roller coaster ride that is a requisite experience of every Jackson supporter. They marvel at his seemingly inexhaustible talents and applaud his victories. They laugh with him in his happiness; weep with him in his sorrow and pray for him in troubled times. Their hearts are warmed when he is embraced, and bleed when he is ill-treated. Despite the stratospheric highs and seemingly cavernous lows that come with being a Michael Jackson fan, they remain loyal. They, like Michael, refuse to allow naysayers to steal their joy, obstruct their way or shape their opinions. They, like Michael, refuse to have their destiny defined or dictated by another. They also refuse to stand idly by as others attempt to deny Michael his rightfully earned legacy. Simply, Michael Jackson's fans are just like Mike in that they will not be deterred. By nature of their calling, Michael's fans are constantly summoned to put on the full armor, stand on the front lines and fight. Oftentimes with their pen as their sword, they fight alongside and for Michael's right of humanity. By so doing, they fight for tolerance over prejudice, unconditional love over criticism; wisdom over ignorance and justice over inequality - not only for Michael, but for themselves as well. The battles are never-ending, hard-fought and oftentimes mentally and physically exhausting. Still, rather than surrender or reconcile, Michael's fans resist. They resist the desire to abandon Michael when all seems lost. They forsake the notion that theirs is a lost cause. They refuse to throw in the towel and resign themselves to the path of least resistance, which so often involves renouncing their fan support of Michael. When the going gets tough, with weary minds and heavy hearts, they press on. They press on through Michael's tribulations and the attacks to which he is subjected. They press on in spite of tire. They press on despite mockery and question as to why they bother fight at all for Michael Jackson, a man some deem undeserving of their adoration. Hazrat Inayat Khan once said, "God breaks the heart again and again until it stays open". Michael's devotees can see him as living proof of this idea, as he seems to be the embodiment of the notion. His own heart has been broken much and his fans personally feel the sting of each break. By the grace of God, Michael's heart does not become hardened as a result of its frequent fractures. To the contrary, his shattered heart allows for its tenderness and openness. Since out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks, Michael's fans are able to truly see the fullness of his heart when they listen to him articulate his desire for acceptance, understanding, positivity, love and peace through song and speech. As their efforts to break Jackson himself have continually proven unsuccessful, some Michael Jackson opponents have turned their focus to attempting to disband the fan community by attacking his defenders. Time after time, the press uses condescending, defamatory terms to describe Michael's fans. Being referred to as "delusional" and "*****" is not foreign to Jackson's supporters. However, Michael's devotees choose to ignore the juvenile name-calling and taglines bestowed on them by the media. The fans refuse to allow the press to project its negative, inaccurate perception onto them. This is because Michael Jackson fans realize that such inflammatory terms do not depict their true nature as intelligent, grounded individuals with a healthy admiration for Michael's music, vision and humanitarianism among other things. Interestingly enough, Michael Jackson's influence is global and thus, so is his fan base. His detractors are under the false impression that his fan base is minuscule as well as one-dimensional. To the contrary, Michael Jackson enthusiasts are nothing if not vast and multi-dimensional. They can be found on every continent, in every country worldwide. Michael's fans transcend racial, age and socioeconomic boundaries. The fact that Michael's fans are so diverse adds to their beauty. Few entertainers, if any, can lay claim to having the type of dynamic and varied fan base of which Michael Jackson can boast. If it is true our lives are open books for others to read, then the fans' study of Michael Jackson has taught them more than they ever could have imagined they would learn about life, love and survival. Michael Jackson is a living testament of the notion that whatever one dreams and desires for his or her life can be achieved. Michael lives by the mantra that love should have no limitations -no conditions. Michael has shown all who dare take notice that it is possible to not only stay alive, but to thrive, with grace and fortitude despite adversity. By merely existing, Michael Jackson has taught his fans what it is to dream without fear, to create without boundaries, to listen without prejudice and to love without judgment. Simply, Michael Jackson's fans are a hard act to outshine.
Their loyalty, enthusiasm, intelligence and genuine adoration of their musical idol is unparalleled by other artists' fan communities. However, for all their attributes, when it comes to one particular matter, Michael Jackson's admiring fans, will always be bested. For try as they might, no matter to what infinite degree they say and believe they love Michael Jackson, the King of Pop in true regal fashion, will always say and prove he loves them more ... Awwwww, that almost made me shed a tear. Everything that writer said is so true . MJ fans are often ridiculed and people just tend to think that we're all these crazy people (which yeah there are some crazies for sure lol, but that's to be expected) whose whole lives revolve around Michael and that is just not the case for most I believe.

It's funny though because when people find out what a big fan I am of his usually think i'm off my rocker or something lol, but like I always tell them, if you aren't a big Michael Jackson fan then you just couldn't possibly understand why some of his fans act the way they do . I agree with the writer that MJ fans are extremely loyal and a very unique fan base. I really think MJ has the best fanbase :p. I honestly can't think of another entertainer or celebrity who would have gotten as much support as Michael did if they were on trial for being accused of such a heinous crime as the one Michael was accused of.

That was really beautiful though . I enjoyed reading it. Thanks for posting :flowers:.

says written by Fantam - some of us know her

- very well written and so true!

Great read!

Awwwww thank you for posting this Reeta, it's so true.

It happens to all of us, as soon as someone finds out I am a Michael Jackson fan, all bets are off, they can be either curious, they can like him and even praise him, or as all of us know the reaction can be almost of disgust

Very beautiful post, congratulation to the writter who expressed so well how special the MJ fan community is.

Here's a video made by a girl named Irlin (I think she's a member here too) and she also talks about this:

This is a fantastic read!!! Great for those who are possibly new fans or even fans who are down on their luck and getting picked on from friends. It really brings up a fan's confidence.

I also watched the video, really good too. She said something about if you saw someone with, like, a MJ t shirt on, an MJ fan would automatically go up to them and introduce themselves. I think this is true. Universally, all MJ fans get along and are all potential friends. I do the same for Michael and also...John Mayer.
I know its kind of an odd mix. But Mayer fans are also this way too, to some extent. We are not as diverse as MJ fans. But none the less, JM fans do the same thing. We are all very friendly, especially around tour time. I've gone to three Mayer concerts and sat alone for one of them. Greatest concert because I had people whom I didn't know next to me but we both enjoyed eachothers company because of Johns music.

This is really great stuff to read. I recommend all MJ fans to read this for reassurance.

I'm sure I've read that before but it was nice to read again. Thanks for sharing it, Reeta. :flowers: Extremely well expressed.

And yeah, I get that, too when I tell people I'm a fan. "Oh I never would have suspected YOU were one of THEM". And depending how they think or feel about MJ, it can be one of those things that allows me to see a side of a person I probably otherwise wouldn't see....which can be surprisingly pretty or downright fugly...especially if they start treating me differently than before or start going out of their way to try and change my opinion of him. It just makes me more determined to prove them wrong about what they think about him and YA'LL....err... US! ^_^

I remember that name, Fantam! She has defininitely penned the way I feel about being an Michael Jackson fan. I've always said that Michael has the most loyal fans ever and I'm mighty proud to be counted among the lot. :)

To 'Fantam' out there somewhere - well done. You spoke about us, you spoke about me perfectly. That is me for sure, standing there in my MJ Armor on the front lines, doing anything to protect his honor and legacy.
I have copt more shizzle for being a MJ fan than anything else in my life, and it makes us stronger. :)

Wow what a beautiful article from Fantam. Being an MJ fan has definitely made me stronger. By standing up for MJ, I gain the strength to stand up for what I want in life. I belive in myself, I know the truth.
I get a lot of ish from my dad for being a fan...he calls MJ freak and not human :(
but I have remained strong and told my dad the truth and we have even argued. But now he is starting to come around and actually asked me what MJs business ventures were...shocking...and he has stopped calling MJ freak. I can see in him that 'wall' of media lies crumbling under the weight of the truth and it is soo beautiful to see. Being an MJ fan has been the most difficult, scary, beautiful and wonderously joyous movement of my life. :)

while i prefer to use the word admire instead of idolize to describe myself when it comes to him or anyone, i will say that that article is def on point, otherwise about me...

i would go out on a limb and say it's a lot easier for us to be fans of him then some may think, cus, in our hearts, we know that the crap written about him is untrue. if any of it were true, then it would be hard..even impossible to continue to be a fan of him...at least for me.. just as i know that if things unsavory were said about anyone, including me, and they proved to be true, i couldn't live with myself, or admire that other person.

Oh my goodness that just made me cry like crasy and its so true. But we are Mj fans and were so proud to be . thanks so much. i just loved the read.

Well, it only makes sense that someone as great as MJ would have great fans, no?

Well written article there, and fun to read. Thanks for posting.

Edit- Great vid too; made me laugh with joy, so much truth there. Thanks!

I've read this before, and it is truly inspirational. I totally agree with the fan, and really, it makes me so proud to be one. :)

Those vids are great also, thanks for sharing those!

I am so damn proud of being a part of this MJ family. I will always be proud of the beautiful MJ fans out there, and be proud to stand beside any of you in support of Michael.

*hugs*

it's just so great,so emaotional and so true.Michael made us,even if we don't realise that,BETTER PERSONS! thank you Mike:)

Thank you all for your beautiful responses! :flowers:

I also watched the video, really good too. She said something about if you saw someone with, like, a MJ t shirt on, an MJ fan would automatically go up to them and introduce themselves. I think this is true.

It's true! :) You don't go to say "hi" to a complete stranger walking on street.. unless she/he has something on you can tell the person is a Michael fan.. Immediately you feel a connection with the person and she/he isn't just "a stranger" anymore :)

I've had a couple of these moments ^_^ Once I had my sunglasses on where's a MJ logo on aside and one boy just kept coming closer and closer to me.. he was making sure it's a MJ logo and then he said to me "Michael Jackson is a King Of Pop", nothing more and left :D Then once I saw a girl wearing a MJ shirt and I just had to go to say hi.. ^_^ And of course our "car incident" :D We were driving around the city with other fans, listening to Michael's songs as loud as possible. Then a few days later when I was walking home from work I heard some boys saying "that's her.. that's her" and they kept pointing at me from their car. I was like wtf.. until they put Billie Jean on! They must have heard/seen us the other day

And there's nothing I love more than being a Michael Jackson Fan! :flowers: He brighten up's my days and makes me feel I belong at least somewhere!

aww Reeta, thanks for the credit, I saved this from MJNO and have it on my site http://www.freewebs.com/dmoonstreet I just thought it was time to circulate it again as right now alot of fans are feelining disilusioned with Michael and the fan community. Things like this remind us why we are here

This was a great read. Thank goodness around me most people like or love MIchael; however, the few people in the past that I have come across have made stupid remarks about Michael to me because they either think it would get under my skin or they were jealous that I attended concerts of Michael and they did not. ANd what is funny, when anyone brought me a book on Michael, these would be the SAME people to get the book BEFORE me and look at it. As for the media, they are just full of it. I think there are some people who want to see MIchael fall and to know that fans will NOT turn against him because of what the media say burns the media and make them want to go after Michael even more. When someone looks to be "untouchable" human nature in some idoits want to bring that person (Michael) down. that is why when MIchael gets into a fix, the media goes crazy and some people, who suppose to be haters, act joyous. To me, it is NOT the people who love Michael who are crazy, it is the media and people who hate on a person (michael) because he choose to live his life the way he wants and NOT by their rules. Believe me, these same people are doing things I would not like and I doubt they will change for me, so why should Michael change to please them. And the name calling of "J***o, those is just plain stupid, racist, and ignorant.

I totally agree with you terrell. The fact that they say and do such ignorant and idiotic things makes me even a stronger fan and supporter. Some people just don't have a clue. But the truuth will always be here to stay for anyone( even haters) to discover later on while the lies will have eventually died.

Truth stands the test of time and MJ's victory is a testament to that.

What Fantam wrote is so true...I can relate to lots of things said, and i'm so proud of myself to love Michael and be able to see who,and how Michael really is.

Thanks so much for posting! That was great, and vey true. I think Michael Jackson fans are some of the nicest people out there. And you really don't get the "family" type relationship with any other artist. If I know someone is a fan, I definitely feel a connection to them. If I saw someone wearing and MJ shirt or something, I would approach them and comment on it. Similarly, when someone says something against Michael, such as the most common comments I hear, that he's a "pedo" and a "baby-dangler", I automatically lose a lot of respect for them because it really tells you something about their character that they are able to insult someone they probably know nothing about, and also, that they are weak-minded, judgemental, easily brainwashed by the media, etc....

That Irlin Jackson girl has an awesome channel on youtube. here's another one of hers that I really love. (it's the video that she reflected upon in the video posted ealier in this thread). If you haven't seen this, you HAVE to watch it. It captures perfectly exactly what I feel about being a fan, and it moved me to tears when I first saw it. Enjoy

I remember this article, I believe it was posted at MJNO once. It's a great read, though, good to see it posted again. :)
