I really don't understand why this album get's such a bad rep with it sounding dated cause to me the album still sounds as fresh today as it was back then. Songs like Smooth Criminal, Man In The Mirror, The Way You Make Me Feel, Dirty Diana, I Just Can't Stop Loving You, don't sound dated atall. What I love about BAD is that 9 out of the 11 songs were written and composed by Michael himself and BAD sounds more fresh than any of the new crap these new singers are putting out today

I agree with you 10000%! I'm one of the biggest Bad era/album fans in the whole world. I think it's fresh and doesn't sound dated to me. I like everything from Bad album. I adore the songs Just good friends and Speed demon just as much like the big hits from that album. I like that most of the songs were written by Michael and only Michael. I can listen to that song in every mood, it keeps me happy all the time.

I agree. I wrote about how good the album was in a review earlier (see my sig). I love Michael written songs, they're usually his best. The album does sound slightly dated in terms of production (synthsised '80s sound) but that doesn't detract from the quality of the tracks. Man In The Mirror, TWYMMF, Smmoth Criminal and many more will live on forever.

Well yes it's very dated, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Growing up, "Bad" was my favorite MJ album, now it's Off The Wall, but I still love "Bad" and I think it's impressive how MJ wrote most of the songs on there. I think that album still holds the record for being the only album to have 5 back to back #1 singles too which is a great feat, i'm suprised no one has beaten that record (yet).

Anyway, I have to say that there's no one song on there that I really dislike to be honest. Some songs are better than others, but I can listen to the whole album without skipping any tracks. Now, I think if MJ had included "Fly Away" and "Streetwalker" then the album would have been even better, but still it's a solid album and also the "Bad" era is also when I became a die hard MJ fan so i'll always love it for nostalgic reasons .

I agree completely. "Bad" is a brilliant album with some of the most distinctive and creative song writing I've ever heard. It is a true showcase for Michael's musical brilliance. I always swap between "Bad" and "History" as my favorite albums. People that complain about it sounding dated and using that to proclaim the album as avearage are using a weak argument, in my opinion, because the only reason they're saying that is due to the use of synthisizers. But that particular instrument not being as prevelent in todays music doesn't make the songs on the actual album any less great. Songs from the 60s that use auchustic guitar don't get ragged on for sounding dated. And it's because its just the insturments being used, it doesn't detemine how great a song is itself, in terms of direction, melody, rhythm, beats, arrangement, etc... I love "Bad", it's funk-rock at it's absolute finest and showcased Michael's genius as a composer and his creativity as a writer. He's an amazing song writer. From tracks like "Bad", "TWYMMF", "Speed Demon", "Liberian Girl", "Smooth Criminal", "Leave Me Alone", "Dirty Diana", etc... It's just genius!

My favorite album for sure. Not just the album, but the whole era, the tour, the videos, everything is just perfect. Many people say Bad has aged badly, but I guess the 80's vibe in it is just what I love. It has a funky vibe in it too. My favorite tracks are Dirty Diana, Man In The Mirror, Liberian Girl, Smooth Criminal and IJCSLY. Bad kicks as*!

One of the things I like about Bad is that 9 out the 11 tracks are written by only Michael. You don't get that on any other album. He helped write nearly all the tracks on Dangerous, HIStory and Invincible. But not by himself. I think he's an excellent songwriter and Bad is proof of this because no one helped him write 9 out of the 11 songs, and all 9 of those songs are great.

^^^yeah, and most of his Number one hits were written by himself.

yeah Bad is actually one of my favorite albums as well.
I don't think the songs sound dated at all. There are maybe one or two that do but the others still sound fresh to me. The Way You Make Me Feel is my favorite song of his. The video is also one of my favorites. It's just different, simple and just stunning to look at.

Michael actually also wrote the majority of the tracks on "History" on his own as well though. 7 out of 15 I think. In relation to the number of tracks on each album, that's almost the same amount as he wrote on "Bad" without any assistance. I wish he would just write an entire album on his own. I seriously don't think he needs outside assistance in writing music. I don't think he thinks he does either, lol. But he does just to stay varied, I suppose.

^^^and I think the ones he wrote without assistance are almost every time better than others. You can hear the real MJ trademarks on them. I must say I like those songs much better except Man in the mirror, Keep the faith. There he's made these songs his own by his great interpretation.

Yeah, I agree. The songs he writes on his own are always his best. I think when other people jump in and co-write it with him, it takes away some of the brilliance. Because genius is a pure thing and when someone else touches it, its kind of like throwing a monkey wrench in to the equation. Look at Michael's track record, from "DSTYGE" and "Workin' Day and Night", to "WBSS", "Billie Jean" and "Beat It", to "Bad", "TWYMMF", "Liberian Girl", "Dirty Diana", "Leave Me Alone", "Speed Demon", "Smooth Criminal", "Who Is It", "Will You Be There", "Heal The World", "Black or White", "They Don't Care About Us", "Stranger In Moscow", "Earth Song", "Little Susie", "Money", "Childhood", "Morphine", "Speechless", "The Lost Children", "The Way You Love Me", "Beautiful Girl", etc... He has a totally unique sound and style to his writing, he creates killer melodies, amazing rhythm, percussion and vocal arrangements. Also many of his songs have complex and numerous cord changes, like "Earth Song", and the way the vocals on his songs are often split in to three and four different sections, all of which are interwoven in a harmoic way, like "Leave Me Alone", "TWYLM", "In The Back", "Monkey Business", "Streetwalker", etc... Not to mention how he layers his vocals over eachother, it creates the most amazing sound.

I agree with you 100%! Especially with your last sentence. He does it so good, and only he can do it!! Perfect!

who gave this album bad rep lol? i never heard of any1 downplaying the album lol. But i love it! my fav mj song ever (man in the mirror) is on it hahaha but this whole album is bangin!

You Know I Think It's Ironic That The Greatest Album Ever Is Called Bad.
Bad>>>>>>otw>>thriller>anything Else And Dirty Diana Is The Best Song I've Ever Heard.

Has anyone seen the iTunes review of BAD? I am not sure is it an Irish review because I am in Ireland or an official worldwide review, but the official reviewer said "Man in The Mirror and Dirty Diana are Michael Jackson at his worst". I think anyone who says that MITM and DD are Michael at his worst are totally cracked up up! What were they listening to? :p BAD is my favourite album ever. I think people who say that BAD followed the Thriller pattern are not correct at all. There are some unique songs on there, Man in the Mirror is the first I knew of it's kind and I think it is fabulous. I love Smooth Criminal, never have and never will find another song like it. I think Just Good Friends is a totally underrated song as well!

Man In The Mirror and Dirty Diana is Michael at his worst? That reviewer was obviously smoking crack when he wrote that review

Best Album EVER!
We all have to agree here. I mean come on: Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal, TWYMMF, MAN IN THE MIRROR!
Every single song is fantastic, Man in the Mirror holds a very special place in my heart out of all the MJ songs.

It's just so so so freaking beautiful isn't it?!?
I can't really put into words what it means for me.

^^^Neither do I. God knows how many times I listened to this song in my life...

how do you guys feel about dirty diana? do you like that song?

Again, one of his best! Like I've said with almost every other MJ song
I can't get enough of that song, I could listen to it all day long.

"Dirty Diana" is brilliant. The atmosphere in that song is incredible and is a classic example of Michael's ability to emote with music. Not to mention his vocals are stunning. He sings rock as good as any rock singer.
