Top 10: Super Bowl Halftime Shows

well MJ is #1, we all know it.. If it were not for the media trying to rune his image, we all know he would have been voted #1

Id say the best Super Bowl half time performance is between Michael Jackson or Prince. Reason's being that Michael lip synced his Super Bowl performance, and if Michael had sung live I'd say his performance would be No.1. Prince's Super Bowl performance last year was amazing !!!

After Michael Jackson and Prince performances at the Super Bowl, I'd say the Rolling Stones are the only other artist/band that were awesome live. Janet Jackson's was really good, but a Michael Jackson rip off.

michael number 1 noone beat that proformance, the crowd scream even says it all, noone can get that type of craziness. non fan or fan

prince was number 2 for me

Michael's performance being at #4 is just one opinion among others. Just because one person says it belongs to #4 doesn't mean everyone else thinks the same way :)

Michael is always #1. No matter how other "people" rank him, we all know the truth. :D

His performances are ELECTRIFYING, and he always gets crowds SUPER excited, like no other.

Eat that, critics! lol

Any performer can and should learn from other performers ... Music is inspiration ... it's very essence is intended to move you.

This listing is an opinion of a writer for askmen, it was not compiled from a survey of the magazine's subscribers. If you don't agree with the writer's opinion, it's cool.

No matter who he put on his list ... my favorite show is always going to be U2's 2002 performance. It hit me right in my heart. The performance moved me on a personal level, it spoke to my immense pain at the time. The words and the delivery of them were on point and sincere. I still cried when I watched the performance today.

Mike is a bad mamma jamma ... Prince is a sexy mutha f'er ... janet has some nifty nipplage ... Justin and his lil friends is nice to look at but Bono, he is inspiring ;)

I'm a massive Prince fan but i disagree with this ranking. MJ's performance was fantastic, Prince's wasn't that good by his usual high standards. Didn't help that he did afew covers instead of sticking to his own material.

MJ should be Number 1! To this day i regularly watch that performance back cos it's so great :)

Michael is the King of stage, I did't say that because i'm his fan.
That's actually what made me a fan. there's no performer that's better than him.
when he is on stage, it's not just about the voice, even without singing live, he could give the best performance. It's all about how he deliver himself on stage, it's his demeanor and attitude on stage that attracts audiences and have them in awe.

btw, I was watching n'sync performance, my lord, i nearly fall off my chair watching them dance. They look like a bunch of monkey jumping around on stage, like they hadn't rehearsed well and still thinking where on stage to go next and what step to do next.
no offense but it's beyond my apprehension how on earth would people think they can dance? some Asian boyband can perform 1000000times better than them, the animated lizards can dance way better than them.

Michaels halftime was the MOST VIEWED halftime for a reason..

Michaels half-time was the MOST VIEWED halftime for a reason..
...yeah, because it was Michael. No one knew what set-list he was performing (or the fact that he was lip-syncing). Being the most viewed doesn't necessarily make it the BEST.

It probably was the most viewed, but put up a public poll and see what results you get.

IMO, Prince and U2 will always be ahead of MJ if the public had to decide :)

I agree with you 10000000000%!!!

Even if he lip-syncing.. there is Michael Jackson the performer and there are others. Nobody could ever come close to him.

ANY poll will be filled of PERSONAL thoughts on MICHAEL.. ASIDE from the music.. I hate it, but it's hard for some people to think of Michael the entertainer away from Michael and the image drawn up by the media.. It ulters peoples opinion..

ALSO, Michael halftime was the first of its kind. Fireworks, large scale performance, a worldwide celebirty status, Stadium participation. (people in stands holding signs to make images) Before Michael Jackson;s 1993 performance, the halftime was not the MAIN draw.. NOW it is. more people view the halftime than the actual superbowl itself.. That started with Michael Jackson..

1988 was the FIRST year they had a celeb do the halftime, before that it was highschool, state orchestras etc. Chubby Checker and the ROckettes.

1991 had Dinsey present New Kids On The Block and mickey mouse, and the rest of the gang.

1992 had Gloria Estefan with olympic figure skaters

1993 Brought MICHAE JACKSON - the first time the Superbowl had that type of performance..

I thought Prince's performance was better than Michael's to be honest. To say Prince wasn't up to his usual high standards, just isn't true. I've seen Prince in concert several times and I didn't find anything lackluster about his performance. He was incredible that night and deserves to be #1 on this list. After Prince however, then I'd say Michael's performance was the best due to the sheer excitement factor alone. Michael is the ultimate showman, he really know's how to entertain, I just wish he hadn't lip synched.

the prince performance is #1 for me without doubt.his guitar solos are just incredible,he's singing live, the stage is his symbol & i prefer the night time shows.the darkness allows for more intimacy.
mj would be my 2nd (even though the lip syncing is a let down)it was very visual & good dancing even though the moonwalk was a bit rusty.
my #3 is between the stones & u2,both really great shows & live singing.bono is a better singer so maybe u2 at #3.

^^^^
Why even post that negative article here? I looked at the comments on youtube for the commercial and almost all of it was positive and a lot of people were saying good things about MJ on there. Anyway, who cares what that guy says , he's a nobody. I'm not gonna write him or complain b/c I see no reason to give him any attention whatsoever.

I hate when poll sites credit Michael w/some sense of achievement and then inject some type of snide remark. It just refeats the purpose of honoring someone in my honesty.

I must say Im not entirely pleased w/the ranking. I am however bias

I seriously don't think so. I've heard radio dj's go on and on about how Michael's performance was hands down the best. The public remembers Michael's as the difinitive performance.

That's exactly right. The way Michael expresses himself on stage and the way he makes the audience singularly aware of that ONE moment in time, makes him the best. You feel what he feels, and you forget about everything outside of him being on stage. You can't ever say anyone is a better performer. Michael is regularly referred to as the greatest live performer in history.

I love how people keep going on and on about his lyp-syncing. But wait a second. He lip-synced when he did "Billie Jean" on Motown 25, it was still one of the greatest performances ever, nobody cared whether he sung live or not, you still felt the emotion and intensity of the song. He lyp-synched when he did the 1988 Grammys, but nobody cared, because the performance was still mind blowing and he still emoted like no other. He lyp-synched when he did the 1995 MTV VMA's, and nobody cared because he was SO good that it knocked everyone off of their feet right on to their backs and blew the roof off the house. All of Michael's greatest perforamances have been lyp-synched. But suddenly its a HUGE factor when it comes to the Superbowl halftime show? You don't need to sing live to emote. It's all about how you carry yourself, like blacknimproud said, it's about the expression on your face, how much you emote. Is the audience feeling what you're feeling? Are they aware of that emotion? Michael makes that happen every time, and he makes you unable to look away for fear of missing something. And he causes unparalleled excitmenet and hystaria because he know's better then anyone how to work a crowd. Prince doesn't do that, at least, not like Michael.

Yeah man, Michael revolutionized that show. I said before too, that before Michael, the halftime show was considered as nothing. He was the first real superstar to do it and in doing so, he drew an audience of over 1 billion people, right at the very moment he was on stage and at no other point in the telecast. Only after Michael did other big name performers start to do the show. Michael made it what it is today.
