Hello everyone! Glad to back to report the news for you. There are a few news sites that still have reviews for Thriller 25 (I will post only positive ones). As of right now there is no new news but people still buzzing about Thriller 25.

Michael Jackson News:

Janet talks Thriller

Janet Jackson has revealed that her brother Michael's smash hit 1980s album Thriller was more of a family affair than anyone ever knew.

Janet apparently sang backup vocals on Thriller album track Pretty Young Thing.

"I was only like 16 years old. The 'na na na na' on the record - that's me," Janet told Access Hollywood. "There were quite a few girls that they had called and we were all in the vocal booth together and they asked everyone to leave except for me. And I stayed and they asked me to sing it so I sang it."

Janet releases her 10th studio album Discipline in the US on February 26. Described as "classic me with a modern twist," Janet's boyfriend Jermaine Dupri helped produce the album. However, despite their closeness, Janet apparently denied the couple had any plans for marriage - yet.

"If I were going to get married, Jermaine would let the entire world know," she told Extra.

The performance by the area dance group comes at a $1,000 singing contest presented by The CD Depot at the Glen Theatre in Gary. A total of 25 singers are scheduled to compete at the Gary record store's Black History Month celebration. The show starts at 6 p.m. Tickets are $15; 985-0746.

A highlight of the program was a comedic "small man" routine, featuring career programs instructors Dan Firestine, Ed Callico and Bruce Allen and a medley of music from pop artists, including Michael Jackson and the Village People. At one point, the audience laughed heartily at the slow-motion movements of Firestine and his false arms, accompanied by Rocky Balboa's theme song.

After wedding singer, Robbie Hart is jilted, he meets a charming waitress named Julia who wins his affection. But Julia is about to marry a Wall Street shark, and Robbie must find a way to keep the woman of his dreams from making a huge mistake and leaving his life forever. The score pays homage to pop songs from the ’80s, and Jutras wears a Michael Jackson glove.

LOL "Crystal Cartier"... you just know not to go claim royalty rights with a gold-digger name like that!

Re: Weekend News Bytes: February 15-17, 2008

I remember that.

"Do you find anything similar in those two songs?"

MJ: "Yeah."

"What?"

MJ: "We both sayin' Dangerous."

The New Jackson Five: VIBE's Favorite Mike Jack Wannabes

by: Tracy Garraud

Look who’s trying to get a piece of that glove

Take the glossed out jheri curls, high-pitched anthems, screeching fans in tears (and a few carried out on a gurney at shows in far away lands), and you got the cult of Michael Jackson. Twenty-five years ago, Thriller became crack for pop-loving 80s babies. Now those babies are grown, and many have went on to have their own successful career…with Jackson’s style smeared all over it. In celebration of this week’s reissue of Thriller, VIBE.com looks at our top five favorite ***** copycats.

5. Omarion

Besides starting their careers before they reached Roller-coaster height, O and MJ have always placed special attention on their two-stepping tricks. To make up for callow vocals, Omarion relies heavily on impressive mini-Mike impersonations. However, while he breaks a sweat straining for the attention of an older audience, Michael transitions seamlessly within a fan base ranging from 6 to 60. Note to Omarion -- being just a PYT doesn’t always cut it.

4. Chris Brown

Let’s be honest: Chris Brown is Michael Jackson on crack – a red-bulled, back-flipping, screen-cheesin’ Michael Jackson. From music videos to live performances, C. Breezy never fails to throw in a tribute to his idol. For a young’n in the game, it’s a smart move that’s done him well. All that’s left now is crossing the border of obsession to transgression.

3. Ne-Yo

Three words: Because of You. The draping harmonies, the tilted fedora, the pelvic thrust, it’s blatantly clear who Ne-Yo’s main influence is. While others stick to pure imitation, Ne-Yo opts to explore the middle ground between himself and *****. The results have proven to be effective, separating Ne-Yo from the duplicators. When MJ’s requesting your contribution to his album, you know hours of perfecting Beat It adlibs has truly paid off.

2. Justin Timberlake

Reppin’ the lighter side of MJ fever, Justin’s Future Sex/Love Sounds blessed him with six top twenty hits from a single album, a feat only achieved once by Jackson himself. With sweet soprano drawls and fancy fly footwork soaked with *****’s juice, Justin has led the most identical career to that of his inspiration. The former boy-band front man turned international sex god has showed no limits in his like for Mike. If MJ himself hasn’t noticed, Janet certainly has.

1. Usher

As arguably the father of our generation's pop princes, it’s only right that Usher be deemed the son of King Jackson. With about 40 million albums sold worldwide, Ursh has successfully converted the hype of MJ fame into a grandiose self-made empire. During the Confessions craze of ‘04, some even double-dared to say that Usher had replaced Michael as the greatest entertainer of all time. With a collabo due out later this year, father and son will put history to the test and raise the bar of pop notoriety. Copy that.

Albums you should already have - Michael Jackson's 'HIStory''
Travis Reynolds

Issue date: 2/14/08 Section:
Occasionally, the Eastern Progress runs a review column on a new album, movie or video game. While it's always good to inform people about what's new and worth their attention, sometimes looking back can expose people to entertainment options they might have missed over the years. Welcome to this week in Albums You Should Already Have.

When talking about people who've made an impact on the music business, one can't deny the fact that Michael Jackson dominated his end of the musical spectrum at his peak. Sure, he's got a pretty nasty reputation at this point and may well be the most unintentionally creepy figure in modern music, but the fact that his greatest hits album HIStory sold over 15 million copies speaks for just how much longevity Jackson's music has.

The first disc of the two-disc set is pure gold, and a quick look down the track list might give die-hard music fans something to smile about. Many of the songs on the album were written by Jackson himself. Nowadays, it's considered a big deal when an artist writes his or her own music, and for good reason; hiring writers is the lazy and effective way to do it.

The first track on the album, Billie Jean, is one of the most powerful pop songs of its era. Long before statements of "you're my baby daddy" became common colloquialisms, the song touched on the fragile ground of dealing with siring an illegitimate child.

Of course the Jackson staples Bad and Beat It are present, as well as one of the most impactful songs in the history of music, the visionary Thriller. C'mon, we all know everything is better with Vincent Price involved.

The second disc opens up with Scream, a rare duet with the artist's sister, Janet Jackson. And of course, the world would not be the same place without Don't Stop ('till you get enough). The Rush Hour movies just wouldn't be the same without having that song for Chris Tucker to sing and dance to.

My only gripe with this album is that Smooth Criminal is nowhere to be found.

HIStory is an album spanning one of the most celebrated and reviled careers in music history, and even though Michael Jackson is something of a media joke now, there's no denying that he was once the King of Pop for good reason. His lyrics still speak to issues real people face, his music still works on the dance floor and the progressive thinking he showed in writing it keeps the album timely.

So if you like dance music, or just have a genuine appreciation for music in general, your collection sorely needs HIStory.

Michael Jackson

"Thriller," 25 years later

Comparing siblings is never fair, is it? But here goes. When it comes to the Jacksons, I'd have to say I prefer Janet.

But that's a recent phenomenon. Back in the more innocent days of 1983, long before the freakish media obsession and allegations of child abuse, it was Michael all the way. That's the year Thriller hit the record stores, bringing a slew of hit tunes to the radio and red pleather jackets to the retail market. I didn't own the jacket, but Mary J. Blige and Beyonce did, or so they confess over at Amazon.com. Amazon is promoting the 25th anniversary re-release of the Thriller album, which includes special collaborations with current artists.

I'm pretty sure I have the dusty vinyl tucked away somewhere in storage, but I'm seriously tempted to get this album. Not for Michael, but because of the collaborations. Truthfully, if you could imagine Michael Jackson collaborating with any current artist, would this woman be the one?
fergie021508.jpg
Fergie. That's just weird enough that I might spend money to hear it. She's on the track for “Beat It,” and reviews I've read online suggest that if you are a Michael purist, you'll hate it, but if not, it's kind of fun.

Thriller: 25th Anniversary 5/5
OKAY, it is an exceptional album but it's not album of the week because it's a re-release. It has already sold a reported 104million copies, making it the world's biggest-selling album and is sure to pick up a few more now. Whatever you think of Michael Jackson, the songs, Wanna Be Startin' Somethin', Billie Jean and Thriller still sound incredible 25 years after Thriller was first released

Day 105 What the media don't show about Michael Jackson the business man –

Music Publishers Sue MediaNet Over Copyright Flap

February 15, 2008
Members of the National Music Publishers' Association (NMPA) have filed a class action copyright infringement lawsuit against MediaNet, a company that powers digital music services for Microsoft, Yahoo, MTV and others. The suit claims that MediaNet failed to obtain proper licenses for the use of songwriters' and publishers' works, according to Digital Media Wire. The plaintiffs in the suit include Sony/ATV Songs, Peer International, Frank Music Corporation and MPL Publishing.

MediaNet Digital was formerly called MusicNet and was originally formed in 2001 by several major record labels in partnership with AOL and RealNetworks. The company was later sold to Baker Capital in 2005, and the publishers in the lawsuit claim that MediaNet's new owners have refused to enter into a similar licensing agreement that its previous owners did.
"This is a flagrant and egregious violation of the agreements music publishers were willing to make in order to allow new business models to flourish to the benefit of music fans," said NMPA President/CEO David Israelite. "These companies are now jeopardizing these services and acting not only in a manner harmful to songwriters and music publishers, but to consumers as well."

MediaNet fired back with its own statement, saying, "This complaint is completely without merit. In an age of rampant piracy, MediaNet is one of the few companies, along with Napster and RealNetworks, that pays copyright holders and artists for their work. The suit is contrary to the core beliefs and business model under which MediaNet (aka MusicNet) has operated since its inception."

The company added that, "MediaNet and others were licensed by the NMPA to distribute musical works until a final publishing rate was established, and this remains the case. NMPA's suit and PR push is a transparent political move during the Copyright Royalty Board hearings to establish an industry-wide standard. This is nonsense, and we look forward to the CRB reaching a final conclusion on rate standards."

Michael Jackson's Thriller Reissue: All Killer, Plus Simple Plan And More, In New Releases

by Kurt Orzeck

Michael Jackson's 25th anniversary edition of Thriller (Sony)
spc.gif

Did you happen to catch Michael Jackson's appearance at Sunday night's Grammy Awards? Yeah, we didn't either. While the rumors were coming on hot and heavy, the reclusive pop legend didn't surface at the show — and that certainly didn't help the ceremony, which could have used some more pizzazz, or the promotional efforts behind the 25th anniversary edition of *****'s landmark album, Thriller.

The LP might be older than you are, but it's pretty rare to see a reissue loaded with as much contemporary appeal as this one. Kanye West, Will.I.Am, Akon and Fergie all contributed in various capacities for the birthday gift, with Chris Brown, Nick Cannon and Imogen Heap all participating in a related 40-episode podcast series called Thrillercast (snag the widget for it right here).

For a release as big as this — oh, and did we mention Thriller is the top-selling album of all time? — it only makes sense that there would be a single to hype it. Well, there is one indeed: a new version of "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' " that features 'Kon, Will and, of course, Mr. Jackson.

"He's a genius," Akon told MTV News last month about working with the icon. "Just to be in the same room [with him], I felt everything I wanted to accomplish in life has been achieved. That aura ... that's how incredible that aura is. We about to shake the world up, man."

Thriller 25 has a few more silver bars too, including a Kanye-produced remix of "Billie Jean"; Will.I.Am's reworkings of "The Girl Is Mine" and "P.Y.T."; Fergie's version of "Beat It"; an outtake from the original Thriller sessions called "For All Time"; "Someone in the Dark"; "Carousel"; and the original "Billie Jean" demo. To boot, there's a DVD encompassing the related Thriller short films, Jackson's Emmy-nominated performance of "Billie Jean" during the "Motown 25: Yesterday, Today, Forever" TV special and more.

Now that's what you call a reissue. As for what else is in store for this week, seeing as how it's almost Valentine's Day and all, we're bringing the 411 to you as a series of couples. After all, we heart having fun in New Releases.

http://www.vh1.com/artists/news/1581358/20080211/jackson_michael.jhtml

The world's best-selling album gets its second reissue in seven years, complete with the usual trimmings of remastering and remixing, but sadly the latter portion is like a virtual handbook on contemporary remix clichés. Most personnel involved here are too enamored of the source material—and why wouldn't they be?—to do anything terribly dramatic to it. But it's unclear why listeners would rather hear the vocals of guests like Akon, Fergie and Will.i.am rather than Jackson's. Still, there's something dryly hypnotic about Kanye West's slight beat-tweaking of "Billie Jean," and it's nice to have the "Thriller" videos and Jackson's famed moonwalk from the "Motown 25" special on the bonus DVD. Bottom line though: We'd be much more interested in new music from Jackson than yet another iteration of an all-time classic. —Jeff Vrabel

Thanks for the news! I always love these threads! I hate when some news just repeats everything

EX: Kanye West, Will.I.Am, Fergie, and Akon have remixed with him. He didn't show up at the Grammys.

I know WE know that already and other people have to know, but it gets repetitive after a while LOL :p

That is the absolute reality that MJ IS a real king as he was crowned in Africa, twice I believe. He really is King Michael and no self proclaimed anything, so when the media calls him self-proclaimed maybe we should remind them of that.

Alright, guys, there is another review of Thriller 25 in People magazine. They called it the "critic's choice". It is positive.

Michael Jackson: Thriller 25th Anniversary Edition 4 outof 4 stars. (the highest) Page 45

By Chuck Arnold

R&B/Pop

You don't have to go any further than the top 10 of this week's pop charts to appreciate the monumental impact of Thriller. On her dance hit "Don't Stop the Music", current pop It Girl Rihanna, wasn't even born when Michael Jackson moonwalked his way to history, rips the "ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma macoo sa" refrain from "Wanna Be Startin' Something'". It's a shrewd move, but all it makes me think how much fresher -and fierecer- the source sounds, even today. On the 25th anniversary reissue, "Beat It" still rocks, "Billie Jean" still burns, and the title tune, with its so-wacko-it's-genius Vincent Price rap, still thrills. The new remixes by will.i.am and Kanye West make the mistake of messing with the iconic material. But Senegal-born singer Akon enriches the African flavor of "Wanna Be Startin'Somethin'," turning it into a funky world-beat jam.

A little section in the article says - First details on.... Michael's next album: Jackson is reportedly brining in some big guns - Kanye West, will.i.am, Akon, T-Pain, and Ne-Yo - forhis first studio disc since 2001's Invincible, tentatively due later this year.

Celebs Thriller moments:

Ludacris (rapper) -

"I used to try and moonwalk, but it really never worked out for me. Him being the star that he is motivated me to be who I am."

Natasha Bedingfield (singer) -

"It's insanely still one of the best [albums] ever. I love everything about it - all the musical hooks and the conviction."

Jamie Foxx (actor/singer)

"The 'Thriller' video just trumped everything. I was trying to find a girl like [Ola Ray] with the same jheri curl."

Pete Wentz (member of Fall out Boy) -

"Fall Out Boy covered 'Beat It' on a live DVD we're putting out. Thriller probably influenced anyone big now."

Ryan Reynolds (actor) -

"That's the first album I ever bought. I had the pleather version of the red leather jacket. I wore it every day until I grew out of it."

CITY TOP OF THE MICHAEL JACKSON POPS

08:00 - 16 February 2008

Lincoln has the most Michael Jacksons than any other city in the UK.

The unusual survey done by Virgin Media revealed that 49 people in the city sported the king of pop's name.

And the Echo has spoken to just one, who says he was the original!

Michael Joe Jackson (58), who lives in Wheatfield Road in Birchwood, even shares *****'s middle name.

"I'm the original, born several years before the famous one, just remember that," he said.

"I've got all sorts of comments over the years, such as 'how's Bubbles', things like that.

"It's all in good fun and I get to have a bit of a laugh with it - if I'm on holiday I'll get up and do a bit of moon-walking for a laugh."

The research by Virgin was carried out to coincide with the 25th anniversary month of Michael Jackson's iconic Thriller album.

Thriller was the sixth solo album by the American pop singer, released in the UK in February 1983.

With more than 104 million copies sold, it is the best-selling album ever made, confirming his title as the king of pop and earning him millions.

You’re also a businesswoman on the side.
When I first started singing I looked at myself as a business entity. I then invested my money in different things like beauty salons and other businesses. I was also the first black woman to own a limousine company. Michael Jackson was driven around by my company’s limos when he came to the country.

Meanwhile, Scorsese has punctuated his career with filming, not just using, the music. This part began when he was second unit director on Woodstock (1970), the rock-doc that, for baby-boomers, defined the genre. In The Last Waltz (1978), he filmed the Band’s farewell concert. He was blessed with an unparalleled lineup of stars, from Dylan to Van Morrison, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell and Emmylou Harris. But he didn’t just point and shoot. Through colour, editing and camerawork, he captured the epic sadness of the occasion. It was a farewell to rock innocence. But he also made Michael Jackson’s Bad video, a brilliant gangster/horror short, and, in 2005, No Direction Home, a documentary about Bob Dylan that Scorsese managed to turn into a masterpiece without actually meeting the singer. He is now planning films on the lives of George Harrison and Bob Marley

Never an event to shy away from controversy, the awards have produced some memorable pop moments in the past including the Spice Girl Geri Halliwell in her iconic union flag dress, Jarvis Cocker's stage invasion during Michael Jackson's performance of Earth Song, Robbie Williams challenging Liam Gallagher to a fight and a drunken tryst between DJ Brandon Block and Rolling Stone Ronnie Wood.
