What If: Michael & Gospel Music?

If anyone could do a gospel album it would be Michael Jackson! How would you feel if Michael's next album would be a gospel album? Would you support it? Discuss!

Why not? I've been listening to Man In The Mirror and I think he would be excellent in singing gospel music. He doesn't have to do traditional gospel at all! Again, if he did the album would you support it? Please discuss!

I would support an album of Michael singing the alphabet, so... I think Michael could easily pull off an entire gospel album. He's got so much emotion in his voice, it wouldn't be a problem at all. And don't try and say he doesn't have enough power, he does.

I'd support it, i just don't think he can. Michael has one of the most diverse voices I'll give him that being able to sing r&b to pop, to rock not easy to do and he pulls it off brilliantly. However I think HE couldn't do a whole album of MITM, KTF, etc..cause he likes to rock out too much.

Gospel music is radically different now! It doesn't have to be traditional gospel music and he could still rock out if he wanted to. :punk:

 Me too. That would be great for kids as well. Move over, Barney! :p

Gospel? Sure, why not, if that was what he wanted to do. Something along the lines of Kirk Franklin would be cool...

But I don't see him wanting to do a whole album of any one style anyway. Meh, what do I know.

I believe Michael would be an excellent gospel singer. Heck he already has sung gospel before anyway : Man in The Mirror, Keep The Faith. He has a wonderful voice and so dieverse that it doesn't matter what he sings it always sounds great! I would support him 100% if he does make a gospel album or songs.

it's funny someone mentioned kirk franklin. he used mj music in one of his songs. he tends to lift from pop music.

Michael has such a strong voice Gospel would be cool - I think Michael wouldn't do an entire album in Gospel though because he is so diverse. But if he did I would definately be there

This may sound stupid but when my children were tiny I couldn't find a album of children's music - soothing lulabies that I liked and I often wished Michael would do one.

I would LOVE this idea so much, you have no idea.

I'd actually probably steal some of the songs and use them in our worship services if they were easy enough. I love incorporating Gospel music into my church as often as possible!

And yeah, he has had many gospel influenced songs like Mand in the Mirror, Keep the Faith and Will You Be There, so no doubt he'd make a great gospel album.

The thing is that it definitely wouldn't get much play on Top 40, because they tend to avoid religious music. Gospel is a smaller market like Jazz or New Age.

That would be a dream for me...

That is the path I believe he should do..

Simply because so many people would be saved..

GOD working through Michael in his music to touch lives, coming to God..

I would love it.. So would GOD.

Not just the typical Gospel sound... But music for GOD in general..

Michael has Pure Soul and I feel he can do a full Gospel album if he wants to.He did "Will you be there"," Man in The Mirror"," Heal The world","Earth Song",Why Not ?He can pull it off but he should do it after he has an album that tells his thoughts on what has happen to him.And Boy, would that Album be a hot one.I would buy both.

The next album could be with the style of song that he want, i don't care, i just NEED listen his voice fast than possible!

:p

Well, i think that would be nice. Michael is a great singer and he can sing whatever he wants that will sound good. And i love his gospel musics... But i don't know if will be nice ALL the musics gospel, i mean, have to be more diverse...

Honestly, I think his music is already gospel music.

It's "good news"! :D It heals the soul!

good question!

actually, i'm all for it... in fact, i've been wanting MJ to do gospel.

he definitely has a testimony and i think it would great, soulful, REAL music ... that's what gospel is all about

That would be something totally unexpected, but I'd welcome him doing something like that. Songs like "Keep The Faith", "Will U Be There" and "Man In The Mirror" all have gospel influences and Michael pulled off those songs very well, so I'm sure he could do a whole album and if he ever did so I would support it 100%.

I think it's funny that people even classify things in to soul or pop or rock, because if it makes you feel something, then that right there is soul, whether it's in one or the other genre. Michael's music makes you feel. I think he has some of the most atmospheric music I've ever heard. So I call it soul, even if it's classified as pop. Gospel wouldn't be a problem for him. He can sing anything.

Michael & Gospel- some of his best work:

Will You Be There
Man In The Mirror
Keep the Faith

Even songs like We Are The World, Remember the Time, For All Time, Liberian Girl- songs with layered or strong harmonies could be considered "gospel flavoured".

If you consider the modern gospel, like songs from "The Fighting Temptations"- Michael could not only easily do it, he could top it and make it better IMO. And of course, I'd snap it up in an instant.

EDIT: Kirk Franklin was rumoured to be working on a song for the new album and he's sampled one of Michael's songs before (i forget which one).

And as a side note, Stevie Wonder sang on a Kirk Franklin number called "Why". I can easily see (or rather hear) Michael doing something like that. :)

That would be fantastic! For sure I would buy it. He can do anything. I love Gospel and with Michael as musically leader it will be even better. Great thought.

I love Michael's gospel songs i could see him doing an album with gospel on it but not a full gospel album though

maybe something heavily gospel flavoured. I just love keep the faith and all that jazz. uplifts my soul!

I have same thoughts as you guys.. I would support him if he decided to do a gospel album, that would be nice :)

It would be amazing if Michael would do album for kids! So much fun!

I think MJ's religious belief forbids him to sing gospel. JW do not sing gospel.

Wait one second! This thread is not about religious beliefs! My question is clear:

How would you feel if Michael's next album would be a gospel album? Would you support it? Discuss!
It's not about what you're putting on this conversation and you've made it into something else. Now if you were to say, "I wouldn't support it because I'm not Christian" is one thing as it pertains to WHY you wouldn't support it. But your entire line of reasoning as to how you think Michael wouldn't do it because of what you think his religion is, is off base.

I will moderate this thread accordingly because you've made it off topic. You are welcomed to answer the question but please do not go off topic again.

I never said or implied that it was a religious belief. |I said MJ may not do it because of the fundamental beliefs he has. That's all.
I would love to hear MJ sing gospel. I have a library at home full of gospel from Elvis Presley, to Jim Reaves, to Sam Cooke, to Charley pride to Mahalia Jackson and a who host of African gospel. I love gospel, including negro spiritual. Paul Robeson is one of my favourites. Please do not jump to conclusion about me. I was just offering my observation on the matter, in joining in the conversation.
I always wondered why he never sang gospel and found out that JW never sang gospel songs, that is all.
