he always misses things like award shows when his priorities are on his other projects. He missed performances of We Are The World in 85 due to his other commitments.

just coz its in print doesnt mean its the gospel, as michael would say.

no one knows what honor he was given, and if it was part of the "live" show or just a video interlude which can easily be edited in at a later date. Mike might not have even got an award. No one knows what happened there. He might have done something via satellite or recorded a message for editing in later... or... he might not have been involved at all and we just think he is. Feb is black history MONTH on BET.. there is a whole month Mike could be receiving his "honor" in. May not be connected to this show. No one knows. Dont call him an idiot. Thats totally unfair.

We do not know details. Michael did not promise anything. Raymone has been quiet....

Maybe they were in some indoors talks, but there was no official talk from his part. So we cannot say that he even pulled put of this. ;)

I agree with that. I am sure Michael is planing something big for us in Februari. Just wait and see.

So, as of now, we're still not sure whether he'll be there or not.

Well, I'm glad about him being honored :) Guess we'll have to wait and see if he shows up too :D

no no, its already happened. he was never going to be there. some fans just assumed he MAY be there. he wasnt:)

Ahmadnat, this is completely uncalled for and inappropriate. This site is dedicated to Michael and will not permit you to be rude to him. You do not have the complete facts. You don't know why he wasn't in attendence or even if he was supposed to be.

Rumors and he/she said isn't enough to make such comments. That's for people like Roger Friedman not Michael's fans.

Michael Jackson was a scheduled guest, but he pulled out of the event. R&B star Ne-Yo wasn't feeling too bad about performing without his idol in the wings. "He has let me know a few times that he appreciates what it is that I do, and that's enough for me."

Thanks for this tidbit.

There was no way that MJ could have made it. He was spotted in Las Vegas in a museum with his children days before the taping. Maybe MJ was too busy in the studio. :) At least he was honored.

BET Honors Bring Star Power to D.C.

The inaugural BET Honors went off with a couple of well-timed hitches last night (more on that in a minute), handing Washington a much-needed shot of black-tie glamour at the Warner Theatre. There was also a protest outside, which, this being the District, counted as a homey touch.

The Washington-based network handed out awards across the spectrum of black achievement, ranging from spotlight-magnets Alicia Keys and Tyra Banks, to business executives such as former Time Warner chief executive Richard Parsons and ACT 1 chief executive Janice Bryant Howroyd, whose employment services corporation has risen from a storefront operation to 90 offices and $500 million in revenue.

An invitation-only crowd packed the Warner for the filming of the presentation, then sashayed over to the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center for a party that stretched until after midnight. The network plans to air the two-hour presentation on Feb. 22 at 8 p.m.

Keys, looking regal in a red gown and a formidable upsweep, accepted her award after the best glitch of the night.

Stevie Wonder came out and ripped up "As," dedicated to Keys. It had the horn section dancing, the ushers keeping time in the aisles and the crowd rocking. As soon as he finished and everyone sat down, there was buzzing onstage, and a disembodied voice say, "Okay, Stevie, from the top."

Technical problems? Somebody forgot to turn the camera on? Who knows?

But he did the whole bit over again, which just delighted everybody.

"I'm just speechless," Keys said, moments later. Then she talked for three minutes and caught herself: "I don't want to go on and on, after telling you how I was speechless."

It got a disarming laugh.

Outside, kept across the street by police barricades, a couple hundred protesters decried what they described as BET's penchant for profit-pushing sex-and-thuggery video shows, and said last night's event was an expensive fig leaf to mask the corporation's sins of exploitation.

Inside, the show packed plenty of star power. Cedric the Entertainer was the master of ceremonies, and the presenters included Vivica A. Fox, Danny Glover and Blair Underwood. The musicians included Wonder, Wyclef Jean, Jill Scott, John Legend and, looking just fabulous, Gladys Knight.

The honorees: Keys for entertainment, Banks for media, Cornel West for education, Parsons for corporate citizen, Howroyd for entrepreneur and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), for Public Service.

hmmm, interesting, no mention of Mike at all! Let's just wait & see!

Neither am I, I just find it interesting that there was no mention of him. One thing I would like to know is how the heck does U.S.A. Today know he wasn't there for sure.? I;m not saying he was there, but something seems off about the USAToday repot. That's all I'm saying. I'm still watching regardless!

Well the only thing we know is:
January 09, 2008 - BET HONORS
Michael is the latest recipient of a BET Honors special, which will air in February. It will feature a large segment on Thriller.
Source: michaeljackson.com
Could be and probably is just a video segment on Thriller which is promotion for Thriller 25 in itself. Michael doesnt have to show up, T25 is still getting promotion.

I am going to be naughty here and speculate that Bet attempted to draw MJ out by offering him an award and MJ declined.;)

That's sort of the way I see it also. I mean, BET "probably" extends MJ an invitation to ALL of their award programs.

And in my opinion, he didn't "pull-out", because he never accepted. If he had accepted, they would have promoted it as such and I'm sure they would have mentioned in on 106 & Park.

I wouldn't be surprise.. also one article I read said that there were hiccups and some protesters outside about BET content of tits and booty..

I can see if Michael haD shown up.. the media (I am just guessing)..would have attributed all the mishaps and protest to him... (WMA style)...

plus he is a perfectionist..........so if it wasn't right.. I can see Michael declining...

You are so right. Say no more cause we know who is lurking here.;)

I hope BET was not planning on having MJ there so much, that they canceled the TRIBUTE due to him not being there..

Maybe. Michael should have an entire show dedicated to him and his entire career though. From the sounds of it, this was just another tribute to Thriller.

You know, even if MJ did not want to produce a new special about himself due to time constraints. U know how good it would do for Michael to re-air 'The One' on TV again.. that one show with all those celebs talking about MJ that later released on DVD.

If BET was attempting to draw MJ, then why would he list it on his site?

Maybe he was going to attend and couldnt but the fact is that MJ stated on his site that there was going to be a segment on Thriller. Had nothing to do with BETs trying to get MJ.

Michael didnt wantr to debut at the BET awards....hes savin himselffor his comeback at the grammys :p !!!!
