Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Everything I said is true - it has come directly from a Sony rep and passed on to me through admin at that forum.

Furthermore, I've recieved some more info about what was said at the meeting in New York:

Well remember the supposed X Factor appearance? That wasn't just a rumour, that was to literally go ahead.

But as soon as this was leaked by the press, Michael swiftly pulled out from his X factor appearance because it 'was no longer a suprise, and Michael likes suprising people' - so you can thank the press for that!

-------

As for more on the Grammys,

Michael had been (in decemeber) in negotiations to do a Medley performance, including Beat It, Billie Jean, and Thriller - all were planned to include live vocals, an orchestra and an '8 piece dance troupe'.

^These were the planning stages, and it must be stressed that NOTHING was confirmed (as of december).

The rep said, at minimum there would be a tribute performance, but they were in negotiations to get Michael to perform.

That's basically all I've heard so far, and seeing as it HAS NOT been confirmed, I'm not going to expect anything.

Whats the reliable source (other than you saying "sony rep")?
I dont mean to pick a fight or anything i just cant see why someone in Australia seems to have constant updates about things like this.. Whats the Sony rep's name, and what is his email address? That would be the source. And if he/she has told you this info which you made public then there is no doubting that any of us can email them and get the same information back?

Sure, I was told his name is Hadyn (a representative at Sony), in one of the three emails sent to me by the admin of the forum, of which I will not name for privacy purposes and frankly because I don't want to be kicked off the forum either.

This is going to take a while to explain but I have the time so I'll do it.

In a thread on the forum relating to the Grammys, I posted the following:
"What do you guys think the chances are of MJ actually performing at the Grammys?

I can see a medley of sorts happening, but I'm leaning more towards MJ just sitting in the crowd like I said before lol."

Then this prompted the admin (who had the meeting at Sony regarding the release of Thriller 25 back in December), to respond by saying:
"A medley was discussed"

I then replied by saying:
"This was discussed at the meeting you had at Sony?"

And then because I wasn't getting an answer I posted:
"I've cottened on to something haven't I?"

Within 2 minutes both my posts and his post were removed by him and this was when I recieved 3 private emails from the admin.

The first email I recieved:
I shouldn't have mentioned the medley on the board.

I just hate knowing stuff and being forbidden from letting the fans know.

I must stress, though, that no performance or medley has been confirmed. For this reason it must not find its way onto the message board. Firstly because I don't want to give anybody false hope and secondly because Sony forbade me from discussing it.

My reply back:
No worries. I knew something was going on but

Cheers.

The second email I recieved:
At Sony they told me MJ was in discussions to perform at the Grammys; that there would be at the very least a tribute but that MJ would possibly perform.

Then another source told me a few weeks later that it was a planned medley of Billie jean/Beat It/Thriller with live vocals, a live orchestra and an 8-strong dance troupe.

This has not been confirmed, though, and I doubt it will happen.

It was definitely in the planning stages but we all know MJ and we all know he probably flaked out and went to the shopping mall instead of the rehearsal studio.

My reply:
[That is unbelievable. I can't believe you could keep this from people on this forum, but at the same time I know exacly why you did. People would go nuts and have it set in their minds that it was a definite performance.

Wow. I actually still can't believe that was being 'planned'.

I doubt it will happen too, we might be all shocked though. Fingers crossed something goes down.

The third and final email I recieved:
If (forum) were to post this information on the website or the messageboard after Sony specifically told us not to, they would never trust us with any information again.

Plus, as Haydn explained, when the X Factor appearance leaked, MJ pulled out. He doesn't like his surprises to be ruined by the press.

Also, as you say, the fans would get excited. Plus, if it doesn't happen - which it probably won't - there would be those who would use it as ammunition against (forum); accuse us of lying.

^That was the conclusion of it all. As for the source you were after, the source is Sony. The meeting between ____ and Hadyn at Sony HQ was to discuss Thriller 25 and get a sneak peak at 3 new songs: TGIM 2008, WBSS 2008 and P.Y.T.

Lots of other things were discussed about the promotion which I haven't heard of yet, one of them being the unconfirmed performance by MJ. They were in negotiations back in December, so who knows what has happened since then.

EDIT: Lastly, this whole subject was stumbled upon because I was simply curious about what MJ's participation was going to be at the Grammys. A few words slipped and this was the result, but as per usual, still nothing confirmed ;)

MJ always likes suprising remember :p

Thanks for that explanation. Much clearer now. My only fear is that you were told this by the notorious liars MJStar, who when they dont know the FULL story, fill in the blanks themselves. I know they only got to listen to 3 tracks, and they would be the only fans who would talk about expecting MJ to flake on rehearsals and go shopping haha. Paul at MJNO got to listen to For All Time so its not him you're referring to. Its not your personal fault for reporting what you were told. Not at all. I am not one to shoot the messenger. I only worry that you have been misinformed. Thats all.

Yea, well like you say, I can only go by what I've been told.

This time next week all will be revealed :)

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Gives us something to be hopeful LOL

Whats the worst that could happen? All we get is a Thriller 25 commercial at the breaks LOL

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

I honestly think we'll get a tribute performance.

MJ will sit on in the crowd, watch and applaud. Maybe say a few words on stage.

If MJ literally performed it'd suprise the HELL out of me.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

I don't even think Michael would sit in the crowd, he hasn't done that in years. It's more likely he'll be backstage and come out to give some kind of speech. Frankly, a tribute is nice, but seeing Akon, Fergie and Will.I.Am butcher Michael's songs doesn't seem like the most thrilling concept, lol. If Michael shows up in any capacity, I'll be happy.

Yeah. Its similar to the time that michaeljacksoninsider posted that there was a confirmed MJ world tour for 2007. These people are people VERY close to the jackson camp. Pearl Jr. Interviewed Aphrodite and TMez, Joe Jackson and Raymone Bain... and their site reported something they were misinformed about and it gave them a bad rep. I dont what YOU to get a bad rep coz of what someone else told you. Ya know.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

I personally think it is aweful for anyone to leak MJ's plans. He clearly cannot plan on his own. He needs other people involved. Those involved need to learn to keep their mouths shut and fans need to learn to wait. I am not happy. We want MJ to perform yet we ruin it by leaking it when we know he doesn't want his stuff getting out. There is more than one reason why MJ does this. I believe the primary reason is that he doesn't want the press to sabbotage his involvement like the did at the wma. People need to understand wha is going on here,Diane dimond made an attempt to sabbotage the SB performance with her malicious article.; MJ's project needs to be kept safe and confidential, otherwise he won't perform.

thats why the collaboratorson new album are so tight lipped.. and its a credit to them! it wouldnt be easy to contain the most exciting thing in their life, which working wth MJ clearly is. in the words of will.i.am "its like workin with michael jackson"

Michael Jackson at the Grammy Awards: Gotta glove it!

Tuesday, February 5th 2008, 4:00 AM

Michael Jackson will appear on the 50th anniversary Grammy Awards show, we hear, but he has vowed not to perform.

The Gloved One appears to have won a stare-down with the Grammy-givers at the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. For weeks, show producer Ken Ehrlich has been mulling the idea of marking the 25th anniversary of Jackson's "Thriller" album with a revue that would feature guest stars from his rereleased blockbuster, which drops two days after the Feb. 10 broadcast.

The medley number would include Will.i.am (on "The Girl Is Mine"), Fergie (on "Beat It"), and possibly Kanye West (on "Billie Jean") and Akon (on "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'").

Ehrlich said he'd do the tribute only if Jackson sang and danced, say insiders. "Michael can't go along with that," says a source. "He needs more time to rehearse new versions of the songs. And everything requires new choreography."

Now, we hear, Ehrlich has agreed to having Jackson just appear onstage - apparently believing viewers will tune in just to see what Jackson looks like now.

Grammy reps and Jackson spokeswoman Lois Najarian didn't get back to us. But word is Jackson is saving his moves for a show where he'll make some money - a "Thriller" TV special and a series of concerts.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

^There it is! "the medley"..:p unfortunately missing MJ (so it seems), but I'm not giving up all hope.

Isn't th nydn tabloid? This article sounds tabloid and malicious to me.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Lois Najarian works for Epic Records.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

This sounds more realistic that MJ would appear and not perform and have others perform the remixes.

Yeah, like I've always said.

MJ will be sitting in the crowd going "yay!" *claps hands*
"I love you guys singing my songs! cause it means I don't have to! Woo!"

cool:) with or without MJ it wuld be cool. its kinda a wasted opportunity for him to get global exposure while singing and dancing, but of course he will not care lol. i dont think he realises that younger generation, minus the fans, dont even know that mj is a good performer. to most, all mj can do is grab his nuts, go "hee hee, ow!" and moonwalk.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

that younger generation

what like the old mjno board that was made up of mostly teenagers

LOL, I know what you mean, Im not expecting but could you Imagine Michael performing with a whole load of dance moves like in Wanna Be Startin Somethin, just to show what he's got

As for the tribute roumers at the grammys, could be quite cool

I just hope that Akon is there which he probably will because hes nominated for 4 awards and i hope Kanye West is guna be there since hes been nominated for 8! I hope them 2 perform! I will be goin mental if MJ just shows up or sends another video message!

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Nah, even if he was gonna I dont think he should perform then, but that's just me. I'm glad he's going, though.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

there are 6 billion people in the world and 16,000 on MJNO.. there are as many teenagers living in my street as there were active teenage members on MJNO. and 95% of the teenagers in my street wouldnt know what MJ does.

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

i hope the tributes (if any)mention Mj, and dont just sing the remixes as if its their songs

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Is Will.I.Am nominated for any awards?

Re: Grammy Performers: Beyonce, Foo Fighters...and Michael Jackson(rumor)?

Is Will.I.Am nominated for any awards?
No, but the other collaborators on Thriller 25 are.

Kanye West is nominated for album of the year (Graduation), best rap solo performance (Stronger), best rap performance by a duo or group (Southside w/Common and Classic w/Nas, Rakim and KRS-One), best rap/sung collaboration (Good Life w/T-Pain), best rap song (Can't Tell Me Nothing and Good Life) and best rap album (Graduation).

Akon is nominated for best pop collaboration with vocals (Sweet Escape w/Gwen Stefani), best R&B performance by a duo/group with vocals (Bartender w/T-Pain), best contemporary R&B album (Konvicted) and best rap/sung collaboration (I Wanna Love You w/Snoop Dogg).

Fergie is nominate for best female pop vocal performance (Big Girls Don't Cry).

So the other collaborators on Thriller 25 will probably be there at least to accept awards.
