Am I the only one that noticed that the jugganauts in the music industry have been calling MJ "the King" lately? This is about the 3rd or 4th people I heard used that title. I just mentioned it in another thread, but Omarian, in the latest thrillercast, just said it as well. He said 'He is not just 'the king of pop, but he is 'The King'.:D

Not really. Listen to Omarion. he said MJ has covered every genre. He is not just the King of pop, he is "THE KING. No laziness there.:D

I like it, have heard it, but I always took it as short way of saying King Of Pop..

I like it though.. 'The KIng' 'The King of Music' 'The King of Entertainment'

something on those lines

Yes, I think he was referred to as such in the American dance crew. Will.I.am did too, and I have heard a few others in the music industry do it. I think it is a new trend. All the more important because it is other artists that are calling him that. Omarian said that he has covered every genre in music.:)

Elvis is also called 'THe King' very often..

I think it's just the same when it comes to that..

'The King' For MJ will not kick off like 'King Of Pop' did..

well, unless we force it.. lol!

Award shows, concerts, public places.. bring posters saying 'The King Of Entertainment Michael Jackson'

we should all agree to one though.. I think music is too small, Pop is really too small for Michael. that's why I like King Of Entertainment

I think those big entertainers have recognised, like the fans, that KOP is too small for him, so they are calling him 'The King". Elvis is dead, long live the King.

^^ That's so true..."King of Pop" IS too small for MJ. He's larger than life!

So he's just...The King. :D

Yeah, me and my little brother used to watch all of those corney Elvis movies! :D

But I also noticed that one of the dance groups on that MTV show also called the King.

It's a title he's earned years ago and he 100% deserves it! ;)

:worship: His Majesty KOP :worship:

Personally I wouldn´t mind at all if Michael had just been called "The King". However, those of us who are familiar with the term "positioning" within marketing will know that the use of the title "The King" will never be used by the huge masses on MJ, that title is taken by Elvis, and I think it will always be that way. I mean, we as fans can call him the King, but on a wider scale it will not spread out. Which I in a way think is okay. Let´s let Elvis keep that and have another title for MJ.

If "The King of Pop" is no longer suitable for MJ then one would have to take a title that is not already taken. I think "King of Music" is a great title for Michael Jackson, although he certainly also is the King of Entertainment I would go for the music thing. But repositioning is usually very hard when a name has stuck to a person, so I guess "The King of Pop" will still be the mostly used title when referring to MJ.

That title was no more given to Elvis, that KOP was given to Justin Timberlake. The fact is that a few media peolpe have been calling Elvis that, AFTER his death. Many people in the music industry have been calling MJ just that, and you know that these people have fans. If the 'boys in the hood' and those on the industry call that, there is not a thing that the tabloids and Murdock media can do about it. Most of the kids alive today know Michael. They do not know Elvis.

Good thing Suspicious_Mind isn't here anymore, lol.

Michael should be called The King of Song and Dance. Since song encompasses several elements of music and dance is straight forward.

I haven't noticed "the king" thing but I've noticed that they call him either by his name now or "MiJac" instead of the old "nickname"...so that's good.

And I had to laugh when I bumped into an article about an athlete of some sort called Michael Jackson and they called him "*****"! :toofunny:

Check out Omarion on the latest Thrillercast.:D

...He brought a lot to the industry, rock, pop, r'n b, hip hop, every genre of music.
That's when you realise that he is the King. I wouldn't even say king of pop, but I'd just say The King... Omarion.

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time. The people have been voting with their feet for MJ for over 25 years now. It is still being compared to modern artists and the world is STILL waiting for his music. That is a true King there.:D

You beat me to it!:lol::lol:
This thread would be filled with drama by now!!!

'The King' is absolutely right, KOP doesn't cover it really.

Well people.......check my avatar. That says it all! :kickass:

I started using the "King of Music" banner at MJ events in 1995 as a "response" to the media's "self-proclaimed King Of Pop" comments....It's my way of saying "self-proclaimed King of pop my a**.....I proclaim him the KING OF MUSIC then!!! And my banner at the MJ events is the proof that MJ ain't "self-proclaiming" anything, I AM. So EAT THAT you stupid reporters!!" My way of saying "KISS MY A**" to the "self-proclaimed" reports. Besides, I truly believe that MJ, if anyone, deserves the title.

i do believe MJ's title of The King is the only one by any artist that has been given by the fans. other artists have been given their title by the media and the fans caught on from there. his first fan to give it to him was Elizabeth Taylor. and well..King of Pop works too, cus any music can become pop music if it is popular enough. classical works have topped the pop chart before.

to me..if the fans give it, it's more real than if the media gives it.

Oh the media can go to hell, the whole 'self-proclaimed' thing is complete BS, Liz said it first, and we enbraced it. As Summer said, it's more than deserved!

personally, I prefer 'Maestro'. King will always be argued and belittled by other people who ... well, the King title just comes with too much baggage for my taste. There, i said it politely :D :innocent:

This is why I say that the people voted with their feet.
When the britsh want to put some famous people into their hall of fame. They chose Elvis and Madonna and a few other names, automatically. Those people did not have to face a public vote. They left Michael Jackson and Prince and a few others to face a public vote. Some thing tells me that they were hoping that MJ would not have been sselected, but the british public voted for him. I felt very proud because he was the peoples choice. I can't help feeling that some of the ones they automatically selected may not have made the cut.:)

yes he is the KING but i don't think there really is a title that really fits him. To me the best and rewarding title he is that covers him as a person and artist etc is just simply MICHAEL.

I wouldn't call him the king of entertainment as he hasn't done many movies or acted in many to be called king of entertainment. There are better actors and actresses than him.

"King Of Pop" is a better title but "The King" is the best!
