Piece of classical music written by Michael, as confirmed by his sister janet, in an interview with Q magazine in 1993 - remains inreleased.

"He (Michael) has a song called Iowa, that he wrote - people will never hear that song", said Janet. "Just before he left to film The Wiz, he put all the songs he had written on to tape in the studio in our parents´house. Not one of them have been heard and those songs were songs to cry for. These are the things he has written for orchestras, that are classical music - like something by Bach or Beethoven."

Now, I am not a big classical music fan but I would looooove to hear this. This is not very well known facts on Michael, and I´m sure that classical music lovers all over the world might have gotten a different view on MJ if they had heard his classical work. Well, 2 bad we won´t hear it, though :(
 
Thanks for posting that, I've been looking for the actual excerpt from Janet. I would KILL to hear those compositions. Michael's favorite kind of music is classical and he's a complete musical genius, and I'm sure it's there where he really showcases his brilliance as a composer, in orchastral pieces. How many of today's song writers would actually be able to do that? Zero, I'm guessing. They wouldn't even know where to start. Michael has an innate musical sense and understanding, just like he has an innate sense and understanding of dance. He just gets it on a very deep level. At such a young age too, to be writing classical work. People don't understand how talented Michael really is. I wish that these would get released someday. Who know's how much classical music he's composed since then either. It's just frustrating knowing it exsists but there's no way to hear it. Maybe someday.

Mmm! I never knew that Mr. Jackson wrote a composition called Iowa...

My son Kevin lives in Iowa...
 
It would be nice if he would incorporate his own classical pieces into his music rather than sampling others. The whole Will You Be There would have sounded more interesting knowing he composed it.

I know it is wrong of me to say, but I sometimes can't wait for the day when he passes away so some of this hidden work will be released for all to hear. Everyone always gives more respect to people after they are no longer here to enjoy…

One thing for sure, in the afterlife I don't think there will be a problem listening to all of these hidden tracks. I'm sure each fan will get to meet MJ too! :lol: So, take heart! There is hope for every fan out there! LOL :lol:
 
I bet he has tons of music that the world may not hear any time soon- being the kind of artist he is I bet he is very critical towards his own work.
From a fan point of view, its highly irritating..................knowing all this is there, but out of reach.......-_-
I hope we eventualy will hear some of it- it would be very interesting. I sometimes think of Michael as one of the artists who works with paintings, sculpture etc....We are allowed to see their sketches, and preperations and it adds to our understanding of the artist. It would be very interesting to hear and see some of his "sketches" and different kinds of work, as its a great way of understanding a artists development and professional work.
I hope he lets the public see it sometime ( one of the reasons why I hope he holds on to Neverland, is that some day maybe it could be turned in to part a museum, part an educational arena for young musicians- wouldn`t that be great?)

I'd love to hear that as well. A lot of pop artists who dabble 'classically' aren't very successful at it (imo.) But then they aren't MJ...

Would depend entirely on the work. I'd really have to hear it to have an opinion.
 
Why doesn't he put those classical pieces on some movie soundtracks?! Does he think his fans don't like it.. If so, he's so wrong!! And he would be taken just more and more seriously after that. I hardly know any musician who doesn't kinda "envy" classical pieces, because most of the pop and rock musicians don't have so much knowledge on theories, they are unable to compose something like that themselves..
 
I would really love to hear it. Tbh, I'd prefer he release that tape he made just before The Wiz than this new album he's working on. He's done pop and R&B to death. I'd love to here him move on from popular, chart music.
 
I think Michael would like to move on from doing pop albums, but I don't think he think's his fans want that, sadly. His favorite music is classical, and I'm sure composing classical is where his real passion lies. But I think after everything that's happened, Michael feels he needs to reassert himself as a force on the charts and regain fans. I think he doesn't realize that there are many, MANY fans who would buy an album of his classical work in a heartbeat and appreciate it as much as anything else he would put out, if not more. I think he's afraid of rejection and feels like he needs to do what he thinks people want.
 
Why couldn't Michael release both...two types of music...3 different leagues of fans/admirers: Pop/Rock, Classical, and the people that will enjoy whatever he creates.

Mike don't sweat it...YOU've been taught by the masters, have the experience, and are at the top of YOUR craft...

Go for it..!

When it comes down to Mike.... I suddenly love classical music so it would be mindblowing if he ever released some classical songs aswell

Well, You have 100% pure Jackson-composed pieces like Morphine and Childhood, as well as other music that could be called "neoclassical". Also, there are couple of compositions written for the film "Ghosts", which are "purely classical", and are finest pieces.

i think he is appreciated...feared...honored..admonished...envied...all the things a genius is to be....rightnow.

and...for me..i believe what he did with Will You Be There is genius..after all it is a number 1 song

Yes. I was going to come in here and mention the music in Ghosts. I assumed Michael wrote that and it is definately what I would call classical. You even have him as the Maestro there directing it. I love that video.
 
Michael has always talked about how much he likes classical music in comparison to pop music ("I don't like pop music." -- MJ to Bunte Magazine after buying two classical music albums in 2002). I'm sure he has composed quite a few classical pieces for his own enjoyment, there's so much music locked away in that vault of his.

Right, he obviously is more in to classical, per his own admission. It's not that he doesn't like his own music, I just think he's more inspired by classical and I think that's what he's always wanted to do, more then anything. I bet the pieces he's composed are pure genius. And as Bob George said, his favorite songs always do have a classical element, such as "Childhood", "Speechless", "Earth Song", etc... All of his other music is brilliant, so I'm sure it's no different with this particular genre. The man holds back. He holds back on everything. As a singer, as a dancer, and obviously, as a song writer. I wish he would just say "screw it", and show the world what he's really capable of.

EC: we do not even have to guess about it: "Ghosts" does have two compositions for the grand orchestra that are sole work of Michael Jackson -- we know this factually due to BMI registration; the organization is obliged to count all possible authors and co-authors of music works.

There are another couple of works for "Ghosts", which were composed by Jackson in co-authorship with Nicholas Pike.

Hi denisrs,

Is it mentioned in the registration where exactly in Ghosts these two compositions occur? Can you show us, or give us a link to this BMI registration?
 
It would be interesting to here some classical works composed by Michael. Childhood, Little Susie, Will You Be There are all classical-inspired songs and are brilliant pieces of work. I hope to we get hear more classical compositions from Michael in the future.

I think Michael made his experience with "Dancing the Dream". With it he tried something different and it was NOT appreciated. "Dancing the Dream" is far from being pop. There are beautiful poems, and when I recite them for myself I sense that there must be wonderful music in them as well.
I think Michael was very hurt by that rejection. Indeed he voiced his frustration about the public's ignorance towards it. It's a shame!

Side note: imo with "Dancing the Dream" Michael showed what a pioneer he truly is. The pieces about selfishness and about the earth have never been as up-to-date as they are today.
