How true is this? (regarding MJ's pics being digitally altered)

I obviously none of us really know, only Michael himself knows.

But I personally think that he's subconcious about looking super pale and washed-out in pictures, so he tries to give his face some color. I guess sometimes it goes a little overboard tho lol.

I always chalked it up to showbiz stuff, cuz I'm sure as I can be without being around the man 24/7, that he isn't a cross dresser or anything. But hey, it is what it is I guess. ::shrugs:::blush:

Now I have this image in my head of Michael in front of a mirror pouting with a Boots No.7 lippy in his hand. I hope he doesn't change his wig and put his foundation and mascara and whatnot on when the kids are around

there has been some examples where pictures were different whether thats because of alterations or lighting etc i dont know but getty images have done this quite a few times. mjs hands looking purple and lips looking red yet in other pictures taken of the same thing the colouring was totally different. whether this was just getty and the colours they use i dont know but alot of their pictures were like that.of course mj wears make up i doubt that is the issue

The media IS altering Michael's photos to make him look worse, and that's a fact addmitted by ex magazine employee, have no idea about his name now, as I don't remember, but it was quite a story during the trial when that guy admitted that he was made to do that and that it is a common thing that tabloid media do. It was like - making Michael's hands look purple and red, making his lips darker than they are, etc. Normally, Michael very rarely wears blood red lipstick. And even when he does it's mostly for videoclips, like for example in BOTDF.

:mat::ranting:perrin: Stupid media, doing it on purpose!!!!!!!!!

Personally, I could care less if Mr.Jackson wears make-up or not, He is getting alot better at softening the lip color,,,Bright Red does not go well with his skin tone and it is not necessary to enhance his very hansome facial features...

But yes just like CHICHI had stated it is for pigment use. But why not cal it lipstick?
Because it is not lipstick; one can not paint form/shape of upper lip like Jackson does with lipstick. Tassel or something thin has to be used for that. And yes, the reason for that is to make shape of lips different and/or to bring pigment there. Or else pale lips on very, very, very pale face will make impression that Michael is zombie.

Jackson is no Boy George like some media like to portray him, implying sinister there. Tabloids use oversaturated, heavily distorted photos consciously for that purpose.

Compilation.jpg

Just see how "bold red lipstick" in the first row of photos in the compilation actually turns out to be just pink when colours are not crazy (photos are from the same date and time), where Michael does not have orange shadows and red face.

The point is that Jackson is very pale and in reality there is no way how he could gain orange skin, so we have second, lower row of photos where more actual colours are seen.

It shows "wonders" of colour (auto)saturation adjustments made by programmable filters photographic equipment and afterprocessing. None of those filters ever suited to process as pale skin as Michael's, so sometimes, when switched "On", they "think" that something went "wrong" with colours and they try to adjust it.

Pink make-up is used sometimes to adjust form of the upper lip and there was no ever idea for lips to be that "dark red lipstick". With Jackson being unshaven often, and not using red paint for nails or else "feminine" features, it would not make sense anyway. Jackson is no Boy George.

I understand this, but I wasn't calling MJ Boy George. I was actually asking why it bothered him to use the word lipstick. I mean it is not an awful word. And I don't think it's a shame if a male wears make-up or what not. It's their persona choice to do so. I mean hey, somem en pull it off, and look great in feminine products.

Now the tabloids on the other hand I believe do manipulate Michaels photos to make him look, and seem crazy. They also do it, to prove to the general public that he is not telling the truth about his Vitiligo, and that he is ashamed of being black, and wanting to look more like a weirdo than anything. This is what I hate about the media/tabloids. I am just sick of the BS.

I personally feel impartial or irrelevant to use of red lipstick untill tabloids and other media choose to use distorted "bold red lipstick" Jackson's photos for their agenda. (I did not mean You when mentioned Boy George; I meant the media.)

I also have nothing against word "lipstick" -- just mentioned that the word is technically incorrect to use in Jackson's case. The more so, as I showed above with photos compilation make up on lips is much more about form/shape, rather than about pigment, which is still just pink anyway. No association with "lipstick" in this aspect, either.

what color is everyone's lips here? Mine are red, how complicated is this issue, really? It is obvious that the media makes choices on which pics to use of Michael. They have no use for the ones that show him in a flattering light. If he looks at all normal, they pass on that one.

Not that it matters, but I've never understood why. I've seen him without any in the "Who Is It" video and he looked perfectly fine... and by that time (dangerous era) Michael's vitiligo was prominent. It really doesn't matter though, it's totally irrelevant IMO.

neverlandprincess: It was not lipstick, and the matter how much "red" the colour seemed to You on Jackson's very pale face is subject of Your own perception. However, Michael himself does not have allergy on himself looking with red lips when it is artistically necessary -- like in BOTDF video, where everything is done in red gamma. But not otherwise.

Being a woman, I think I am able to recognize lipstick when I see it. Trust me, it's what Michael wears. The outer shape is done using lipliner (a type of pencil with lipcolour), the rest is plain old lipstick.

dude has hundreds of urns, i am willing to bet he has just as many shades of lip color.

Not that it matters, but I've never understood why

Its not that mysterious why it matters. As I wrote above, the problem is not "bloody red lips" as concept, but with the fact that media like to use invented "bloody red lips"/distorted photos to imply sinister according to their agenda. The fact is that there is simply no colour-correct pictures that would actually prove that Jackson ever used "dark red lipstick". Even in BOTDF video colour gamma was intentionally set to be oversaturated/red.

So just remember when you see Jackson's photos with "red lipstick" there is simply no such thing there in reality; the colour is pink, just see photo I posted above.

THANK YOU, denisrs! I saw this topic and since I'm at work I wasn't sure I'd have time to type a proper response and add photos to back it up. Excellent post! I've also seen footage on television appear a lot more toned down that what appears in still photos as well.

Great choice of photos, btw. :flowers:

JudgingNoone: being a man I am not strong with those terms, so You are probably right naming "lipliner". But I just checked some video "behind the scenes" and saw tassel in Karen Faye's hand when she worked make up of Jackson's lips. And since the colour is pink, the "inner" part of lips are often left unpainted at all. I checked this May photos from birthday celebration (gosh, I can not believe I went into those depths  ). So no need for lipstick, even pink one.

Anyway, the matter is how media use distorted colour pictures and what they always try to imply.
