WoW so this is a serious question. Well, for 1..it's cool! Secondly, it's Michaels sister, he loves her....and lastly, with the exception of Scream - Michael and Janets music never really crossed (we're not going to count PYT) - so it was a suprise, a cool suprise. and a show of support for eachother. And di I say it was hot?
LOL
Their music never crossed?????? OMG, sorry but I don't believe that for a second. Here is my reasoning:
1. Michael produced MANY songs from janet's early work.
2. He and janet shared Jam & Lewis as well as D. Austin as producers.
3. janet has sung background for more songs than just PYT and Scream.
4. Michael and janet's musical style (at least radio wise) are in pretty much the same category (New R&B).
5. Michael and janet performed MANY, MANY times together on the Jackson's Variety Show.
6. One can play songs from the Bad and Control albums, one after the other, and they are very similar in beats and sounds. It was clear she was copying Mike's style for her own success.
7. janet copies Michael's moves in very many concerts. They danced together all day, every Sunday for years and years at Havenhurt, so it is no shock to me that they ARE so similar. However, I do have to say that Michael has the much better voice, better dancing abilities, better intuition and artistic flair.
Mike also knows how to work the media...VERY VERY VERY well. Even after the Sony-blocked, Tommy Matilda massacre, the Invincible release sold 2 million copies with one video and one book signing. janet has gone on tour with nearly every single album released. She has released far too many albums to keep the quality up to Michael's expectations and has gone to the lengths of re-releasing her last albums in hopes that they might reach a million units sold, and that didn't work. Michael has re-released Thriller only to have it sell 2.5 million copies 25 years later. Sorry, I love janet to death, but she won't be able to release a Control/Rhythm Nation/janet 25th anniversary set of albums because they just wouldn't sell very much. I would estimate on her dwindling fan base that she could move another 500,000 units of ALL THREE releases with a huge PR campaign.
Basically, janet's career is something of a retrospective to me at this point. I will always treasure Control because it came out between Thriller and Bad when I needed some Jackson juice more than ever and she was able to step up to the plate. Her last four albums have made me cringe. Talk about going through the motions. Needless to say, I purchase a copy of every release she issues. Many of us probably do, and yet the numbers aren't there. She needs time off. She needs to find her own creativity. My only fear is that her second husband, Rene?, was not lying when he said he wrote most of janet's hits. Some of you will want to kill me for saying this, but I believe she paid him a substantial sum to stop speaking about it. Why? Because it was true.
I'm sure she will have future hits here and there, but Michael has the ability and talent to release a new album tomorrow, produced and written by himself, that could quite possibly take over the world again. He should try to lose a bit of the perfectionism and let his gems shine. After all, how many fantastic songs have come out that were chopped from his other albums. Some are my favorite songs.
More and more I realize how true the statement is: Michael needs to remind everyone of his stardom and why everyone fell head over heels for him. The trials and tribulations of late will be forgotten over time and very quickly with a couple hit songs, videos, and new moves. Guarantee it! Plus, there isn't a soul on earth that isn't interested in hearing about Mike's first performance in July.
It seems that a majority of the media in the US want Mike to fail, which actually will work to his favor when the headlines on July to read:
"Jackson Proves that 50 is the new 25. When he said, "you haven't seen 'nothin yet," we laughed and pitied what we saw as a destroyed man. Well, it seems clear to this reporter that Mike was fooling us all the time, preparing a comeback that will surpass that of even Elvis. If you are able to grab a ticket to his new show, prepare for true magic and a reminder of why Michael Jackson is truly the King of Rock, Pop and Soul."
...I hope.
