Way is it so important to us that we all (th public) is calling Mj the king of pop?

Mj has made som grate record and some not so grate records, and thats it!...who cares if he is a king or not?...silly thing to argue about!

you might as well take away the king or queen title away from everyone else then.
michael deserves the title as much as others do.

I think this has been discussed to exhaustion. It's just a name, a title other people have coined Michael. In the end, he's still a human who holds amazing talent. ^_^

It's also a matter of personal choice; I love calling him Michael, or Mike, or 'squishy-bum'...don't tell him that though. :D

it there's no KOP, there shouldn't have king of rock n roll, godfather of soul, queen of soul all these title then.

Why is it important?
didn't you know that he reshaped the whole music industry with his videos and Thriller album? He break many many records and has some extraordinary achievements that some artist can only dream about, he's not just an artist making some grate and some not so grate records.
Jackson transcended and defined the realm of pop music, shaping the molds of some of today's biggest artists.

i think it's because a public title is such a subjective term.

you can look at music like a sport and argue that Mike is the greatest. or you can look at it artistically and realise there are many "contenders" and each brought us something unique to help shape the industry - although, currently, that's not really a statement to be proud of. but nonetheless, we've had many geniuses in our Pop history going back to the likes of Marvin Gaye & Curtis Mayfield, to Stevie & Vandross and to Mike & Prince. each different in their own right, and yet each inspired the generation of geniuses after.

but i wouldn't think many would take a title that seriously as to ignore the fact that it's not a competition. at least, i hope not.

Elvis has the Title "King of Rock`n Roll"... and Michael deserves the Title "King of Pop" because his musical achievements in the last decades are monumental, nothing to discuss about.

Power??...what do you mean?...you all get foold by him posing white alot of bodyguards like he is an army leader. but it is all staged. and the clips white crazy teenagers passing out can you find on every consert.

Why are you so offended by it. Let it go. If you don't like it tune it out. Focus on things that are positive and stop looking for something to complain about.

Actually, I think King of Pop is too small of a title for Michael. He should be the Emperor of Entertainment because he rules over many kingdoms in the entertaimnent industry. Rock, Soul, Pop, Videos, Dancing, etc. An emperor rules over many kingdoms! :punk:

Ticie,
The JACKSONOLOGIST

I think it's pushing it quite a bit when people say he's the king of nearly everything when it comes to music.

Not when award shows are on their knees begging him to show up so that they can hav a decent ratings. His tv MSG was the largest in tv history. That figures, MJ can put on hos own grammy's. Wait a minute, didn't MJ had his own red caret in Japan and the media followed him all the way their and ended up showing the entire world?:p

sorry I failed to see what that had to do with my comment. lol

One gets the feeling that some people are only on MJ boards to repimand MJ fans for daring to have an ego about their favourite artist. Am I supposed to feel guilty for loving Michael Jackson?

I'm feeling the same and its annnnoying

'cause some MJ fans have big egos! lol

every artist out there has an ego..

if you think it is egotistical for fans to want Michael to have his just due....then so be it...

just a little note to you.. because i see u just have 23 post..
welcome to the forum..

its always good to understand your audience b4 posting...

I call him Soul Brother #2 behind James of course. But that's just me.
That's good Timmy. Even though I woud never equate MJ with soul very much. MJ is never soul enough for me, that is why I wasn't into him until late. O prefer Jermaine when it comes to soul. Marvin Gaye, who I saw when he came to London, 100 years ago, but my favourite is Smokey Robinson, Now that is soul. MJ has his unique style and he is infectious, but he wouldn't come close to my favourite soul brothers,:D

I meant in terms of stage appeal. :p

To me, Marvin is the king of R&B/soul (not to mention the Prince of the Motown sound) and James is the Godfather but that's just me.

O.K then. I never saw James Brown on stage. I only came to know him recently, so MJ would be first for me there:D But I still love me old fashion soul brothers. Nothing beat them.

wow...for a minute i thought i was crazy, and the only one who felt as you do, Datsymay. it's nice to see that there's at least two more..i hope i see more as i go along, so i won't be afraid to enter a MICHAEL JACKSON forum to show my love for MICHAEL JACKSON.:)

i mean...first the media accuses him of calling himself the King of Pop. then they accuse Elizabeth Taylor of doing it. then they accuse the fans of doing it, now we have to defend ourselves from inside? it's like he has to be the first to be attacked for plastic surgery, which has been around forever. then he has to be accused of being himself, by the media....then his fans have to be accused of being totally positive about him, on top of that?(even though he is not the first artist to have fans that are totally positive about the artist. but apparenty MJ is the ONLY artist that is NOT allowed to have fans that are totally positive about the artist.) i don't consider myself to have a big ego. i consider myself to be having to defend MJ from all angles, including the most unexpected ones. i spend too much time having to defend him, to have time to develop a big ego.

well let me shoot back. i feel that MJ is the first artist where the naysayers are CONTRIVING objectivity against the artist. and in reality, it's NEGATIVITY. it's like they're trying to be negative JUST because i'm positive. and no other reason. it's not cool to contrive.

MJ is the King of Pop. and the King of Music. let me just say that i first wrote the King of Pop, while thinking 'King of Music', cus i was afraid to write King of Music, for fear of backlash on this very forum. then i looked over this thread, and saw someone else write King of Music. so i backtracked, and went back to this post, and edited it, and have now written King of Music. so i have become a coward, because of the negative atmosphere that i've been experiencing, even on MJ forums. and i needed someone else's post to give me the courage to edit my post. :(
