I think you're right, Lady Gaga is not her, its her creation, I think thats the point though, thats her whole 'thing'. She calls herself a 'performance artist'. The whole thing is a performance.

I was starting to like her but the Telephone video lost brownie points for me too. There were elements there that showed she could have done something special but I was left underwhelmed.. it didn't have the magic.. maybe there was some for like a a few seconds but overall no.

Lady GaGa is an artist but not one to express herself. Lady GaGa is an artist which creates and plays the role of her famous cover (Lady Gaga). She's like an actress - but in the music world, if that makes sense.

I admire the hype she's brought back into the industry. We need that.

I believe she has a good voice, and is a natural entertainer. But she's all about technicality, I hardly feel emotion from her these days. The only two songs (which also happen to be my favorites so far) that really evoked emotions were Emotions (no pun intended :p) and Ave maria. Halo is up there too though.

I agree.

I find it annoying how the only valid arguement people say about Beyonce is the fact that she is a good singer.... SO... what? There are plenty of better singers than Beyonce. She isnt even a GREAT singer to say the least and being a good singer doesnt suddenly make you a legend. Singer, performer, innovator are three different things. She is a good singer but all her music for the most part is terrible, nothing classic or innovative about any of it.
 
I say the females from number 1 to 5. They are overrated. Maybe not Britney as much. But yeah they are overrated.

The thing is, as someone else mentioned, they are like the best the industry has rigth now that is main stream so they put them on a pedestal. Which is sad. there are so many other people who could break out if they had the opportunity.
 
I voted Taylor Swift..... I just think that there is nothing special about her.....

we have to admit, beyonce is playing the game very well.
She knows how to play the media and her fans....
I think she,s not so innocent as she looks when it comes to playing the hard b*tch

Beyonce I love her. I even went to her concert when I was living in California.

Don't think she is perfect. I don't understand why people say things like she is perfect and her body figure is so sexy.

I do think she is great but it doesn't mean I have to idolize her
 
I said Taylor Swift before but now my opinion as switched to Lady Ga Ga.
 
Without doubt Lady Gaga and Cheryl Cole. Lady Gaga can sing for the most part but I hate how she tries too hard to be different, it's like she can't think of any other way to market herself other than to try really hard to act all weird and stuff. As for Cheryl Cole well she can barely sing.
 
Lady Gaga is the most overrated of these listed here. She's called a musical phenomenon, but her songs are run-of-the-mil, there's no beauty in the composition, no moving melodies, no lyrical meaning and it's all crammed into totally medicore and primitive production. I don't understand why she's so popular. Don't get it, even though I tried hard.

Me too, I tried so hard to like her I really did lol, especially as one by one some of my most sceptical friends started to like her. I admit some of her songs are catchy and get stuck in your head but I just find her irritating and probably the most overrated artist in history, I'm no fan of Madonna but at least she was original.

Totally agree...That and the fact that she's a complete copy cat.....How anyone can call her original, I have no idea....I do like her music, but it's likely because it's been done before! Check this out, it's laughable, really...

god, i hate her! shes nothing. the only thing she can is wearing strange clothes to get attention and to draw off the attention from her missing talent..

I am by no means a fan of Lady Gaga but she can definitely sing. Have you checked her pre-famous, acapella (sp.) or live performances on YouTube? She has a better voice than most of the popular artists out there today (Britney, Rihanna, Katy Perry etc.). Whether you find her voice appealing or not is of course a matter of personal taste. I do feel that Lady Gaga is not as original or revolutionary as she is made out to be and her music gets more praise than it deserves. I like many of her songs but let's be honest, would they be considered as "genius" if they were sung by Britney or Katy Perry? I don't think so. From the options given in the poll, I therefore find Lady Gaga the most overrated by the media and the general public. That doesn't mean she is not talented.

As for Britney, Rihanna and Taylor Swift, I don't see how anyone could consider them overrated as they are not rated much in the first place. I've never heard anyone calling them or their music legendary or genius. Actually, I think Britney in particular is underestimated as an artist. Her voice may not be great but it's decent, she is a fantastic dancer and she has released some classic songs (like Toxic). Plus she's been around for over a decade, which not many pop artists achieve. She deserves more credit than she gets imo.

Finally, I consider Beyonce to be close to Lady Gaga in terms of being overrated. She has hardly evolved as an artist, neither in image nor music, in the 14+ years she's been around. She just doesn't excite me. I know she has a good voice, she's pretty and she's an alright dancer but I don't understand all the hype around her. Remember her new album that is being likened to "MJ in his prime"? Well, I've heard the first two songs and they sound terrible. Besides, hardly any of her songs carry messages that are in any way original or thought-provoking. The usual subjects are love and girl power. At least Gaga makes an effort. Also, Beyonce has been accused on numerous occasions of taking royalty credits she did not deserve, and afaik she doesn't play any musical instruments unlike Gaga. Then again, Beyonce is not as pretentious as Lady Gaga is. In short, it's a close call between the two but Gaga has the edge for me.
