Who you find overrated and corny?

I absolutly hate hate hate hate hate hate his voice. The songs don't do anything for me probably because I avoid them like the plague once I hear that it is prince. The man cannot sing at all. I know he has other talent but he shouldn't be a RECORDING ARTIST IMO.

I avoid prince at ALL COST I can stand maddona. I actually like beautiful stranger and 4 minutes (and a few others if I hear them). She's nothing special but I can stand her. She's still overrated though. I don't know how either one of them got a music deal and I don't know what the big deal is about these two. But prince = YUCK:puke:

my mom told be that before prince finally got his big break that ppl would BOO him and he would keep on singing.:hysterical: I would pay good money to say that.:hysterical:
OH MY LORD AMEN! I thought I was the ony one who thought that Princes voice is AWFULLLLLLL OMGGGGGGGGGGGG
AND Madonna. OH I so agree with this post!!

LOL yea his singing voice ain't all of that maybe as a singer his overrated BUT as far as musicianship, songwriting, producing, and arranging the brotha does that all by his self. He also plays multiple of instruments but it all has to do with taste really because I'm just really getting into prince.

I think we've been civil but yeah. I can give all the reasoning in the world but it wouldn't matter. So many folks here present their opinions very matter of fact. Like it's the gospel truth. Why did I or do I reply the way I do? Because you're the first to put down Whitney's exquisite talent in defense of Mariah, whom you have obvious bias. If you reread your posts you will see that you are the one that brought Whitney Houston in to the conversation, not me.

P.S. Madonna is getting trashed left and right but you don't see me challenging it in this thread. So, I do get the concept of opinion.
And I appreciate that Jona, because I know that you are big Madonna fan. Thank you for adhering to the topic at hand. I really appreciate it...

You state Whitney is better then Mariah as though it were fact with no backing reasons. So that just confuses me because otherwise, I see no point in us having this discussion. Then all it is is you saying Whitney smokes Mariah and me saying, no Mariah smokes Whitney, lol. And there's no point in that if we aren't actually going to talk.

If you would read, you would see that I readily admitted that I brought Whitney up, but I did so seperately from my comments regarding Mariah. I simply said I didn't believe Mariah was overrated, not quoting anyone in particular, just putting my thoughts out there. Then as an ad on, to go along with the topic of discussion, I said one singer who I do find overrated is Whitney Housten, without saying Mariah was either better or worse then her. You came along and said that Whitney destroys Mariah. You made that particular comparison. You brought Whitney Housten in to a comparison conversation between her and Mariah Carey, not me.

You can say all you like that I'm biased against Whitney, but that's not true, at all. I listen to Whitney Housten all the time, I have some of her albums and I really enjoy a lot of her songs. I just think she's overrated because people constantly hail her as the greatest vocalist in the world when, technically, she is far from it, and that's a fact. I think she has wonderful quality, but her range and control is lacking, as is her timing. So sue me for saying so. You're the one who has an issue with me stating such. But if you came in and said, without quoting me, that you thought Whitney Housten was the greatest thing since sliced bread, I assure you, I wouldn't dispute you on it or challange you in any way. I only have done so because you quoted me directly and basically underminded Mariah Carey's talent to up Whitney Housten's, the same thing you accused me of, but which I hadn't actually done until you made it an issue.

People don't have to defend or even give a reason for why they think what they think.

Did you HEAR Purple Rain or Kiss?

LOL Kiss is my jam!!! Prince has a nice tone to his voice but I wouldn't put him on the GREASTEST VOCALIST list. His not ALL that strong as a vocalist, just average but all the things I listed above makes up for it.

You should listen to "Thunder", "The Sacrifice Of Victor", "Power Fantastic", "Still Would Stand All Time", "Another Lonely Christmas", or "Adore" if you think Prince isn't that great a singer.

Rihanna.

I don't even need to back up my claim. When she sings, I feel like she's talking to me and I then feel tempted to reply to her or something. She's... blah. There's a lot of no-talented, shoved-down-our-throats, have-to-be-everywhere singers out there, but she has to be the mother of them all.

It's not b/c I dislike artists who don't have a spectacular vocal range. I'm a huge Jennifer Lopez fan and it's safe to say that she's isn't the best singer out there. But she's chosen different paths which showcase her other talents. Rihanna is just a record company product if you ask me.

I don't dislike Rihanna as a person either. I don't know her, I'm just basing my judgement on her music.

They don't have to, but if they're going to actually start a conversation by making a comparison, they should, otherwise there is no point in making the comparison to begin with. You don't quote someone disputing what they said and by making a comparison that wasn't in the post they quoted and not expect to get a response.

Prince has a nice falsetto, but he really isn't known having a great voice. I mean how often do you even hear people outside of his fanbase praising his voice? Like someone else said, he is an incredible musician, performer, songwriter, etc. but apart from his falsetto and effective screeching that he does in songs like "The Beatiful Ones", "When Doves Cry" and others his voice is very average. I've always said that if Prince could actually sing well it would be a big problem lol because everything else he is exceptional at, but as far as his voice goes, that's the one area where ultimately he falls short (no pun intended).

Um, he can sing according to who? I am a Prince fan, but apart from a few songs, i've never been impressed with his voice. Like I said earlier, I think he has a very nice falsetto and can carry a tune, but that's it.

He can sing according to what general standards are. He's got good range, okay quality, etc... I wasn't trying to say you're wrong, I was just saying he's got a voice. You can hear that he's got a pretty good voice on "Rasberrie Berret".

I think right now Rihanna is very overrated. So is Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and Chris Brown. No creativity whatsoever. Oh and Miley Cyrus and Alicia Keys.

I dont agree with the Madonna bit at all. She's not that overrated. She may not have a lot of talent but shes uses what little she has in the most effective way possible and shes stuck in the industry for so long. I wouldnt say Britney could do that same. Madonna is an intelligent woman. I would prefer Madonna live to Michael live anyday. Her live shows are much better than Michael's.

And as for Prince, hes a GREAT vocalist. He has shown more range in his singing than Michael ever has. But I do prefer Michaels voice to Prince's voice.

lol, Prince's voice ain't sh*t compared to Michael's, his range ISN'T as good, his quality isn't even one quarter as good, and he isn't half as versatile or emotive. I think Prince can sing, but to compare his voice to Michael's is absurd. And maybe you think Michael's shows are "repetitive bullsh*t", but Madonna could never have the energy or the intensity that Michael has on stage, or the command. I don't know why you even have to bring Michael in to it and basically use a belittling tone in regards to him just to up these other acts with about a fraction of the talent.

Well its just my opinion that I think Madonna is better live than Michael. You have yours. And I still think Prince is great vocalist, just my opinion. So what if I think they are a little bit better than Michael, just my opinion again which you clearly disagree with.

Well I only took offense at the way you stated it, is all, it seemed harsh for no reason and bringing Michael in to it to validate the talent's of other's didn't seem needed. You're perfectly entitled to think what you want, obviously, and I'm sorry if I came off as rude. I think Prince is a good vocalist, as I stated before, I was actually defending him, but technically he isn't on Michael's level, that's just a fact.

I think both of your posts are laughable having seen Michael live in his heyday as a teen in the 80s he was THE standard of performance. Maybe you weren't alive then but to say he isn't good live is a insult to the highest degree, Madonna is very good live but Michael was the best. Also, Prince could never sing a song like Keep The Faith for example given the depth and rungs in it, for starters Prince doesn't even sing in one voice you never what you gonna get from him, at least great singers like Michael, Stevie, Marvin always sang in one voice and were excellent at it. Prince is a great musician who got lucky that he could use that to create a career, Michael clearly sings rings around him and again I saw them both live in their heyday and that is just my humble opinion.

oh come on, Alicia Keys is underrated and Madonna is overrated? I mean, I like them both, but still you gotta be honest.

And I can't believe you'd pick Madonna live than Michael. I mean, Madonna makes great shows, but come on, her shows are supported by tons of dancers, lights, special effects etc. When you see Michael live, you see his soul on stage.

LOL I can't believe sorry if I am limited, but HOW could you pick Madonna over MJ live... Unbelievable.

Speaking this cuz my life time dream is to see Michael live.

dangerous_88, being that I've seen Michael live in his prime back in the 1980s I'd pick him hands down over Madonna and I like Madonna I have nothing against her. I think she's made some very fun songs and good songs in her career. With Michael though you just got his SOUL and if he ever decided to do an unplugged show that would be the ultimate. Given that this Heer person has so few posts, I have to wonder if he, she or IT is a troll coming in this thread to incite i mean clearly we are on a Michael Jackson site so it looks very suspicios.

Michael looks possesed on stage he gets so heavily in to his performance. It's like the only thing that exsists for him at that moment is what he's doing and feeling, and he gives that back to the audience, so they in turn feel it too. That's the mark of a great performer. His intensity is unmatched, not to mention how he literally wears his emotions in his facial expressions and body gestures.

I won't even get in to the technical prowess of Michael vocally, cause I've done that before. But if you want to talk about range, Michael's natural range is much wider then Princes.

i have yet to see any singer-dancer surpass Mike's talents for performance on stage. don't think i ever will, and i hate using that phrase as much as making comparisons.

Prince is a great musician who got lucky that he could use that to create a career
being fought over for a major contract at age 18 hardly pertains to luck.

Oh well I agree with you on the first part, but the second one omg lol don't be THAT mean hehe :D

And yeah the unplugged concert would be out of this world.

And yes WBSS21, you said that very nicely. The energy that Michael has is ENORMOUS. It can't be explained with words... God if you are going to make one of my wishes come true in my life, please make it be the one that I see Michael live...

(listening to will you be there and balling like a baby! GOD WHAT A WUSS!)

IMO it was luck because there have been plenty artists majors have fought over who have bellied up. Like I said, Prince is a brilliant musician and he has Michael on that because Mike has never performed any instruments we know of but my point still stands, timing and lucky equalled Prince having a long term career. Besides these days Prince is doing Michael covers in concert and I think that's cool.

Prince playing instruments is of no bearing to Mike's talents. they are two different, incomparable artists

- i don't know what comparing them has to do with the fact that Prince's talents and major influence on worldwide artists/musicians/instrumentalists is no result of fortuity.

i'd love to hear your explanation of how timing and luck equalled Prince his long-term career?

thats just bull, Maddona couldnt ever come close to pulling off a show better then michaels, she doesnt have the charisma, energy or the moves to ever pull that off....

and Prince is a great vocalist but he is shit in comparison to MJ, have u ever heard Prince sing a ballad? it awful his voice only sound good on his funky tracks but other then that, he should let someone else do the singing....

Oh come on guys, let's stop fighting over MJ and Prince. They are both legends, and what is cool is that they admire themselves ;)

Well anytime someone comes round' here and starts making comparisons between Prince, Madonna and Michael, it's obviously gonna start something, lol.
