Do you think anyone can be bigger then Michael Jackson is / was ?

T-Pain : Shawty had them Apple Bottom Jeans Give that big booty a smash

^Yes...and he just won an award for songwriting! L.O.L

Please Mike comeback soon and bring IT!! BRING IT HAAAARRRDDD!

Mike is the first and last of his kind...maybe in a few hundred years the world may see someone have all those elements come together to make another Michael Jackson. I don't think we have even seen the tip of the iceburg when it comes to the influence Michael has had on the human race.

I try to think if there will be another person to have all the stars line up, so to speak and enable them to become bigger than MJ. So they would have to be a child prodigy, child star, teen idol, sexy symbol, adult super star, record breaking albums, invent fashion and artistic genras, suffer physical change/disorder enciting public scrutiny and thus fame, public legal drama, political scrutiny, high profile marriage, family/financial issues, large fantasy estate of residence, and ......do ALL that, ALL that FAME and the very last thing this new, bigger person MUST DO is...............

make it to 50!! :)

so whoever comes along has some BIG shoes to fill!

Uh, I don't know about all that...

^^^Why Lovely One??

I'm just saying it is Michaels life that has made him the biggest. ALL of that stuff...almost his whole life has been in the public eye. Whoever comes along will have big shoes to fill not only talent wise but curcumstance....the stars must align. So in my lifetime there will be no one bigger, perhaps many many many years down the road.

I was responding to someone else saying that "BEYONCE IS CRAP".

Also, as I guess you failed to notice, I didn't just mention that she 'HAD HITS". I mentioned her VOCAL SKILLS, her STAGE PRESENCE, and her WORK ETHIC, as all being apart of her great talent.

For the record,
This thread isn't even about Beyonce and Beyonce is no where near NATIONALLY known so I don't know how in the hell her name got brought up but back to what you were saying.... (even though it has nothing to do with the original topic)

I didn't fail to notice anything... you failed to read what I exactly said but let me break it down for you this time....

on VOCAL SKILLS- Beyonce is a descent singer BUT she isn't the BEST BEST BEST BESTEST greatest singer of all time, hell no and not even close. There are plenty of female singers that can sing better or JUST as good as her that are already in the industry or non famous. For example, Mariah Carey , Whitney Houston and Jennifer Hudson BLOW beyonce on JUST VOCAL ABILITY and plenty of others.... BUT that being said she is a good singer but very overrated on the contrary.

on STAGE PRESENCE- Beyonce is nothing more or nothing less than the perfomers that are out today. In the industry today we don't have real perfomers. It seems like if you do a couple of moves all of a sudden you have stage presence. She can't dance and when she does she copies Tina turner, Janet, Michael etc. There is nothing original or innovative about her or her stage presence. Beyonce isn't doing anything that has NOT been done already period AND if you exactly believe that. You need to go look at some Michael Jackson videos since you claim to be a fan and while your at it look at Tina Turner, Janet Jackson (oldschool janet), Sammy Davis Jr, Nicholas Brothers, Bojangles Robinson, Jackie Wilson. Diana Ross, Fred Astair, Katherine Dunham AND then talk to me about some "STAGE PRESENCE"

on WORK ETHIC- what does being talented have to do with work ethic? Just because she pushes herself out to the masses and works to put herself out there doesn't mean the product that she is making is good OR that she is talented. There are plenty of female singers that are stuggling as we speak that work their asses off but they still don't get to mainstream light because they don't get suck into whats POPULAR. They stay true to their art. James Brown had work ethic and a whole lot of it and the music he made reflected that. Beyonce does alot of things because she wants to stay commercial, movies, magazines, perfume, clothes etc ALL of that BUT not one thing has to do with making REAL music. Thats the problem with music nowadays... these artists are so concern about people forgeting them that they do all this other crap instead of sitting down and writing some descent music.

Beyonce's top ten billboard hits, world tours, album sales, and awards don't indicate to me that she's doing a "whole lot of nothing". Beyonce is living the dream. She's successful, she has a huge fanbase, she's sold millions, she's living her dreams. She's talented, and she deserves what she's gotten thus far, in my opinion. Again, I'm not even a Beyonce fan. I don't own one of her albums, nor do I own any of Destiny's Child's albums. I can just acknowledge talent and hard work when I see it. I applaud her and her accomplishments because she deserves what she has, and she worked hard for it. From the time she was about nine years old (in her group, Destiny's Child),

And I never said Beyonce can "act", I just said that the songs that she sang in her movies became "hits", disproving this other poster's theory that she had only "ONE HIT".

Who cares if she sold millions, so did Miley, so did Brittany, so did Justin?? ONCE AGAIN that isn't a reflection of the quality of the music OR if the person is exactly talented. and for the record Beyonce has not sold that much despite what people what you to believe as a matter of fact, even Brittany Spears sold more that solo "Beyonce". I personally feel most of what she has achieve she doesnt deserve because nothing she has done has been innovative for the music industry or original. She has gotten more than Marvin Gaye and James Brown that HAS EXACTLY contribute to the music industry while Beyonce has done nothing, its a damn shame...
Its just f***ked up hype and im sick of it... im sick of artists that are extremely talented get nothing while artists that are mediocre or talentless get all the praise. If you like her fine BUT im just speaking the truth realistically on a music stand point.

Female singers of today that are exactly talented but underrated:
Jill scott, Erykah Badu, India Arie, Vivian Green, Lauryn Hill

I agree with that

I thnk mj has problems reaching other people then his fan base. His fan base are huge? YES!. But I think people that are music lover and not Mj hard core fans dont look at mj as the biggest artist ever. yes he has been famous since he was 7, but people don´t think in that way. they see what is hot right now, and MJ is very fare from being hot at the moment. I think we shold be glad for all the amazing music he made, and just enjoy is as much as we can...is there coming anything new than we will be happy. but I have to say I dout if he will come with any ground braking music....I just have the feeling theas days are gone. But I really do not hope so. I want MJ to get his place in history as a grate musician...thaté what he deserves...but anyway...big thank you to michael jackson for bringing good music to us!!!!

I love you

hmmm....i guess that depends on what ur definition of 'hot' is...

does it mean whatever the radio forces down our throats?

and..ur right..MJ's fanbase is so big.

in fact..it is so big...that..frankly..it doesn't matter what those outside the fanbase think..especially, if their thinking is determined by a radio programmer. they are in the very small minority.

i don't think you can get any bigger, because, the idea of the entire world liking the same thing is impossible..no matter what. so, as far as MJ goes...he's got enough people liking him, to drive the point home.

and...why is it that what the minority likes is determined as hot..and what MJ fans like is determined as not? having said that, i do think Mj is hot.

to me, the definition of 'not hot', is when people don't have u on their mind at all.

mjscarousal is just being ridiculous. I'm done with it.

I'm sick of his/her/your pro-Michael, anti-everyone else agenda. Sick of it! It's OK to be a fan of MJ, and at the same time acknowledge other people's talents, abilities, creativity, and accomplishments.

Believe it or not, MJ is NOT the end-all, be-all of music and the music industry.

Comon don't give me that haha you made me laugh

If Michael still was a black man TRUST me he wouldn't had all of this success and everyone who is not agreeing with this just don't want to not because they don't understand but because they don't want to.
He would be reuniting with his brothers right now like all the other bands from the 70's who're doing it right now.

There is nothing wrong with vitiligo but he was a black man he would end up like all his brothers ; now he's still famous that's because a lot of people know him as the black man who turned into white . That gave Michael the style man this is very special I ever saw a man with vitiligo on a boat in Spain and trust me it's shocking to see how someone can change like that . That's also the entertaining part of MJ his looks .

After he turned into white he wrote a lot songs think about Black Or White , Scream , etc...
I think the fact he turned into a white man let his lyrics change ; look at the different content of lyrics on Off The Wall , Thriller and Bad and compare them with Dangerous and History you'll notice the change there are less love songs and more political songs

now, now... i think something is wrong here. are u trying to say that michael deliberately changed his color just so he will be talked about?so that his career will have entertainment value? that he cant do the things he has accomplished if he were black? this is ridiculous! i can't even believe there is someone who can think this way

Hyprtronicmusic is obviously clueless. I'm sorry, but it's true.

First of all, Michael is still of African-American heritage, which is often referred to as "Black". He's still a "black man". His skin color has changed, his nose has changed, but nothing can change his heritage.

Secondly, Michael was his biggest when he still had brown skin and curly hair. He was at the height of his career, then. So PLEASE! lol

If anything, as he started to turn "white", is when he started to lose it...the momentum, the mania. Yeah sure, people were still goo goo ga ga for Michael all over the world, but many people were also drifting away from being fans of his because of the way he had changed (and not even just his looks, but his music and other personal rumors).

Strong no. Like some pointed out already, the times have dramatically changed. I think there's more of individualism around the world, which means it's getting harder and harder to see someone so dominant like MJ in the industry and around the world beyond musical sphere.

MJ is a symbol of the US, not only of the US music/entertainment industry. Back in the day, I heard people in my country saying even though someone don't know the name of the US president, s/he does know who Michael Jackon is. Also, he's African-American and overcome so much in the racist society and industry. It's like, Obama being the Democratic candidate.

Yes, The Jacksons were the symbol for young america, and un the 70's, the slogan for young black people were. Young Gifted and Black', That slogan was about the Jacksons. They were more that a pop group. They were a revolution that affected the entire world. The Jacksaons did things on tv that black people had never seen other blacks did before. It also opened the way for all thse comedy acts with black families. The Jacksons started all of that.

Her biggest hits were with Destiny's child? The only ones that easily come to mind for me are Bills Bils Bills, No No No, Survivor, and Independant Woman. I can name a lot right off the top of my head with Beyonce alone, though. You say she's had ONE HIT? ONE HIT?! Have you been hiding under a rock?! Beyonce's had hit after hit after hit on her own! Baby Boy, Crazy In Love, Irreplaceable, Naughty Girl, Me Myself and I, Ring The Alarm, DejaVu, Check On It, I could go on and on...not to mention her movie roles and the songs that came with those that were big hits. I'm not even a Beyonce fan, but I can recognize her talent. Her voice is very powerful, her stage presence is on point, and her wortk ethic is amazing.

And yes, Brtitney Speras was a global phenomenon, not only in the U.S. And just like Michael, she's doing nothing right now...but still famous, and living off of PAST GLORY. So in that sense, they have something in common. Again, I NEVER SAID SHE WAS TALENTED. Any idiot can see that she isn't, musically. She's a great dancer and entertainer, but musically, she's not talented.

Oh, and in your comment about the Eagles, you only REPEATED EXACTLY WHAT I SAID. lol I said, "THE EAGLES OUTSOLD THRILLER IN THE U.S."

What are the names of Beyonce's hit singles, Crazy In Love and er ???????. What are the names of her albums er ????. No impact at all just that one song Crazy In Love. She's like that Ricky Martin a career based on one single. Beyonce's most famous hits are as part of Destiny's Child, she's just hyped up by the media because of her looks not because she's an important artists. She's just a Tina Turner tribute act, and Tina a woman in her mid 60's burned her off stage at the Grammy Awards this year.

Britney Spears was a global teen phenomenon, but she's not in the top elite of music. This thread is about will anybody ever be as big or bigger than Michael Jackson. To be as big or bigger than Michael Jackson or say The Beatles an artist or a band not only has to have huge album sales, but also a huge impact on music that changes the the sound of music. Britney Spears obviously hasn't done that as famous as she is. Also Michael Jackson is 50yrs old and can live off past glories where Britney Spears is still only 26yrs old and is still defined by the music she released when she was a 17yrs old kid.

Oh, I repeated what you said. No I didn't, I pointed out that the Eagles Greatest hits album had outsold Thriller in the USA by 2 million "at the last count in 1999" and that Thriller may have overtaken it's sales since. But the point I made is that because an album like the The Eagles has huge album sales, that doesn't mean it has made any real impact. Huge sales of an album can just be sales of the last fad in music, then an artist or band may flop after than with every album release like the Spice Girls or just have moderate album sales. Your reason for bring up the Eagles album is pointless because you are just talking about "sales", not impact. And for an artist to be huge they have to have a lot of talent and unique music that has never been heard before. Something Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, and the crappy Chris Brown and boring Beyonce don't have.

When you reply to members posts, be constructive and to put LOL in ways that that can start an argument. I can see you getting banned from this forum with, because you are bringing a lot of negativity to this forum through the tone of your posts.

First and foremost, the comments was orginally made regarding what you had said about these other artists coming close to Michael's popularity and the developing ish you mention that has to do with nothing. Of course marketing is what makes you popular, its ONE of the reasons why artists get popular BUT that by any means isn't a reflection of their talent OR how good their music really is. It just means they have mass appeal or they have something that sells. This especially goes toward the artists out now because they are mediocre or have no talent whatso ever. YOU must be naive as hell if you believe that ish they play on the radio is going to be playing 50 years from now or if its worth listening to. You need to think about that before you type trying to label somebody as something and stop taking ish personal, were just talking about music... plse... I wouldn't never put Michael Jackson in that category because even though Michael was popular he WAS AND IS talented. The man is a genius. I wouldn't put these artists of today in the same category I would put Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye. There is no other like them.

Beyonce had hits and??? so did Miley Cyrus.... so did Justin Timberlake... they all had number one hits AND??? that doesn't mean that you accomplished anything just because your song goes to number one on MAINSTREAM radio. If Erykah Badu had the same marketing base as Beyonce best believe ALL her songs would go to number one. Its funny because I don't recognize or remember any of those songs you mention because they are of non importance AND won't be remembered. They are hits of TODAY not CLASSICS. The songs are just garbage. Beyonce can sing? so what ? there are plenty of female singers that can sing just as good OR better that is in the industry or non famous. Her movie roles? please don't tell me your sitting up here trying to say Beyonce can act when everybody up in here know she can't and im not hating on that JUST being honest. Her stage presence? Look at Tina Turner, thats the ORIGINAL beyonce. Everything she does on stage is a rip off and unoriginal which makes it bland and un entertaining and I'M SICK AND TIRED of the press and media making it seem like Beyonce and other artists of today are creating some kind of music revolution when they aren't doing a damn thing, just a whole lot of nothing....

Well said !!!

Beyonce 'Irreplaceable ==> to the left to the left who the **** does she think she is ? She thinks she already have the status as a Diva she feels like she's Tina Turner

Justin Timberlake : I'm bringing sexy back ... no comment needed on this one

Chris Brown : Wall To Wall : All I hear is ladies callin' that says enough

Beyonce, boring and overrated.

Justin Timberlake's SexyBack, is a rubbish song and as Prince said when asked about the song "Sexy never went away".

Chris Brown, who's that !

Well said and completely agree. Ignorant comments like below are the main reasons why there is arguements, bitching, cutting, cursing and anything that is immature and can be avoided because of immature posters who fail to listen to other people and OPEN up their brain for a different opinion AND fail to think about what they type before they type.

and as for you, I'd been done with you and you have been ridiculous throughout this entire thread. Snapping at people because they feel differently then you. Labeling people as things, for what? Your the one taking everything personal. NOBODY never said that Michael was the music industry and I'd be more than happy to give artists credit who exactly DESERVE it and I did. I mention Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye... I also mention current ones such as Erykah Badu and Jill Scott. Just because im not giving credit to someone YOU like doesn't mean I feel Michael is the pineapple of the music world because his not BUT he has made a big contribution to it and thats a fact.

What I don't understand is how can you listen to Michael Jackson's music and have no knowlegde of music and the industry. You talk and your so quick to correct someone but you know nothing about real music and entertainers but you listen to michael jackson and claim chris brown and beyonce make classic music ??? you need to sit down and listen to some real music and stop correcting people when its just opinions.

Well... Michael is great for many reason and for sure he have something special... but I think that there's other special people that like him can give to this world something...

Michael have a gift from God, the gift that can touch people's hearts with his music and voice...

Other than Michael, I discover another person who have that special gift to give something to people who listen his voice and his heart... his name's is Satsuki and it's in my signature who is him.

I find two angels in my life...... MICHAEL AND SATSUKI!

Hi there,

Do you think their will be an singer/performer/producer/musician that can be bigger then M.J. is / was ?
Be honest.

Take Care

Mr.Jackson is in a league all of his own...!

I cannot believe how some people here can name these "artists" in the same sentence with Michael Jackson. I mean: Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Rhianna, Beyonce, WTF? Do you really think in, let's say, 20, 30 or even 50 years anyone will remember them? We are talking about an international, universal artist here that defines the sound of a whole generation. Someone whose music people are growing up to and who they still listen to as adults. Longevity, popularity ... not just someone who the young OR the older are listening to, but who is known by everyone, old and young. Seriously, how many artists can you think of? A handful, and MJ is one of them. All these people who are hip today won't even be known any more in a couple of years. Most people my age don't even know the acts who are in the charts today, and I'm in my mid thirties.

Too true last unicorn. People who think these acts (cause they aren't artists) today have or will achieve Michael's level of fame and popularity are dillusional or just dense, plain and simple. Michael is one of 3 who has, in music, and one of 5 overall, and he's at the top of that very short list.

I think nobody will be bigger than Michael but there will be artists as big as him. That' for sure. He's not the first great musician/composer/singer and not the last one.

Exactly! That's one reason why I decided not to even bother debating with that poster any longer because she clearly is out to argue with people and is not capable of having a mature discussion without name calling. A good way to debate is to address the points the other person is making and try to refute them, but all the name calling and attitude is TOTALLY unecessary. I think most people here know that Michael is not the end-all-be all and that there are other great musicians. However, some people seem to be missing the point. This thread is NOT about who is the best, (although I still say Michael would win in that category too :p) it's about who is the most famous. It's in regards to fame and stardom and there is not ONE artist alive today who is going to come close to Michael as far as success and fame goes. No one is saying that there are no talented artists of today, we are not all stuck in the 80's or live in a plastic bubble where it's all about Michael, but some of us are just looking at the reality of the matter.

I mean you HAVE to take into account the fact that we live in different times now. 15 or 20 years ago, there was no such thing as illegal downloading. Illegal downloading has had a big effect on the industry and album sales. I mean when is the last time any album sold 10 million+? EVERY YEAR album sales seem to be going DOWN. The days of huge album sales are pretty much over. Artists are lucky if they can sell 2 million these days!!! This is why it's unrealistic to think that any artist today can come close to Michael's achievements in that sense because it just aint gonna happen! Like I said, we are living in different times now. Album sales are not what they used to be. Music video's are no longer vital to artists careers. Things are different.

So, can someone come along and top Michael one day? Certainly!

Is it gonna happen anytime soon? Hellz NO! lol. That's not being a deluded, obsessed fan either. That's just being realistic.

I cannot believe how some people here can name these "artists" in the same sentence with Michael Jackson. I mean: Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Rhianna, Beyonce, WTF? Completely agreed 100%! Very good points.

*Applauds*

Was Jesus as famous as Michael when he was alive?

Okay, I know that comment is gonna bring out the Bible thumpers.
great point and, apart from how much illogical comparisons suck stinky balls, Jesus/Mohammed and any other religious-political figures were pushed into this influential position for such a prolonged time because of parental enforcement into little kiddies' young minds to embrace religion and by the continuation of this cycle when the children grew up.

Michael's just internationally loved and embraced without any political infestation.

and this discussion has gone way off-topic. why are people talking about current artists being bigger than Michael?! the discussion's more about future possibilities. it's a FACT that no one's been bigger nor reached Mike's level since he took the spotlight.

Ah, I knew I could count on you to get it arXter, lol. And VERY good point about how Michael is in the position he is without any political influence or generational sharing of relgious culture. He's just universally accepted and known by the fact of who he is and what he's able to do.
